@snowjewelz: Actually, it didn't really affect her night time sleep. She usually woke up as soon as we got home because, being the light sleeper she is, she would notice the car turn off.

And yes, as crazy as it sounds, all of the kids would just get on the cots, lay down and go to sleep. The teachers had to sit next to some and pat them, but otherwise, they just go right to sleep. (I wouldn't have believed them if I didn't see it on the webcam!). She would still take a short nap on the way home because she really needed the sleep.

@BabyBoecksMom: Did it affect her night sleep then if she had to take a nap on the way home? And once she moved onto the 1+, she climbs in the cot and sleeps herself?! I def have the option of having her join the toddlers, if it's the only way she'll sleep.

It can be rough, but they adjust. You won't get the same napping at home as you do in daycare. I would work toward getting her to nap without being held and in general getting rid of sleep assists of all kinds so her environment for naps is similar at home and at daycare. Our LO has short naps but she actually is starting to move toward two naps instead of three at daycare which is good because she has to be down to one nap when she starts in the 1-2 year old room.

DD1 was the same way as your LO - we had to hold her to sleep and she was a super light sleeper. They tried SO hard to get her to sleep at daycare, but it was always a complete crap-shoot. Most times, she would end up being really cranky and passing out on the way home. Oddly enough, once she moved to the 1+ yr old rooms (with only one nap and slept on cots instead of cribs), she would take a solid 2 hour nap.

I'm concerned about this, LO is starting daycare in 6 weeks at 7 mo old. She is a fabulous napper right now, 3 naps/day usually 1.5 hours with some 45-min ones. But she does it in total darkness with white noise, merlin suit, lovey, and light-up soothing elephant thingy. I wonder if daycare is just going to dump her in a crib in a brightly lit noisy room and it will be a disaster. But that is one of the reasons why we sleep trained, so at least she is used to putting herself to sleep in the crib. Like others said, maybe trying sleep training at home would help?

My daughter is a light sleeper at daycare and does not as well there as she does at home. She always gets up after the first kid who wakes up. Sometimes it's only after an hour. The good news is, it hasn't caused her to nap poorly at home, if anything, she makes up for it on the weekends. She went down to one nap right around 14 months

@snowjewelz: My daughter has been the worst napper for me since she was born. I had to rock her, hold her, and sometimes throw her in the car and drive around to get her to nap.

Meanwhile at daycare, she naps like a champ. Daycare providers are nap wizards. I honestly just let the daycare provider take the lead on putting her down however she put all the other kids down. I sent in DD's favorite lovey and told the daycare provider her general routine, but basically told her she could do whatever worked best.

LO naps pretty well at daycare most days, but not at the same time each day. Sometimes he does 2 longer naps, sometimes 3 shorter ones. He has slept much better at night ever since daycare started.

@MamaG: Sigh you know my answer lol! But I'm def not opposed to them trying diff things with her, since they've obviously handled more babies than I have. Also, she seems to sleep better with everyone else but me so maybe she'll sleep with them!

In our experience, daycare naps are amazing! She naps so much more easily there than for us. It's just a total different thing. At home, lo still naps 2x a day most of the time, but at daycare just 1 longer nap. She falls asleep soooo much more easily there. Like, she goes to her cot and lays down and goes to sleep, versus at home we have to rock her to sleep.

Both my kids sleep great at daycare. DD is only three months. Her first week at daycare (only two weeks ago) was not great, but each day she seems to be doing better with eating and napping. Example, her first day she took three 30 min naps, and yesterday she took five naps ranging from 40 min. to 1 hr 50 min. At home we have blackout curtains and a noise machine, so I also expected that her naps at daycare would suck since the room there is not dark and there is a lot of noise with other babies screaming at random times. But she has adjusted just fine.

DS is 2.5 years old and he has one two hour nap every day. He naps the same at home and at daycare. He also has been great with his daycare naps and he has been in daycare since seven weeks old. I think at 10 months old he was doing two naps a day.

@snowjewelz: I would definitely offer the Ergo! Does she transfer well? I know in our state the babies are supposed to be sleeping on their backs in cribs, so they would bend the rules a bit to help her fall asleep but transfer her to the crib once she was out.

For us, daytime sleep 100% affected nighttime sleep and her overall mood so I was willing to drive around for a half hour before dropping her off to get that cat nap in!

@snowjewelz: So sometimes he'll nap for an hour at home and then be up for an hour before going back down for the night. Or sometimes he'll just be down for the night at 5:00. Crappy naps have never affected his (or Xander's) nighttime sleep, thankfully!

I was really anxious about this too. LO started daycare (2 days per week and then we increased to 3) at 10 months as well. At home she was on 2 solid naps but on school days we ended up doing 3 naps for a while.

When do you drop off and pick up? LO always slept great in the car at that age so I would make sure she was up for the day early enough that by the time we had to leave for school, she would fall asleep in the car. I would leave early and drive around or even sit in the parking lot and work on my laptop so she could get at least 30 minutes of a cat nap. That helped her not be miserable through the morning.

Around 11 they would try to get her to nap. They were troopers - they'd have a helper push her in a stroller because the best way to get her to sleep was motion. She usually only slept 45 min - 1 hour.

And then when I picked her up in the afternoon, she would fall asleep on the way home. Even though it was late in the day, I would usually let her sleep 1-1.5 hours.

We did that until she was about 13 months. Then they moved her to a nap after lunch at school and we gradually moved to one nap at home too. She started sleeping longer and better at school and it all worked itself out!

Daycare naps suck. Some days Logan only naps once in the morning for 30 minutes and then is cranky all afternoon and passes out immediately on the ride home. It gets better as kids get older and they all nap together (though I guess an in-home one might not do that...).

DD is almost 10 months. She takes two naps. She isn't a great sleeper, and is a light sleeper. At home, she is held to sleep then put down. On the go, she will nap on me in the Ergo. She doesn't need total darkness, but we always have white noise.

She will be at an in-home daycare. Even if they can put her in a separate place to sleep, even if they can turn on white noise.. What if she doesn't sleep? They don't have the manpower to hold her or stay with her as long as needed to sleep?!

I'm reading that a lot of babies drop to one nap at daycares b/c they just can't sleep. Pleasseee tell me alllll your stories! Good, bad, ugly.. This is the ONE thing that's making me so anxious!
