oh man... I feel like i have nothing planned out.... Weather related - if i know we're expecting a storm i make sure my gas tank if full and I have some cash on hand. We always have a case or 2 of bottled water and dry goods that can be eaten with out a heat source.

We just went on our first vacation this year to the Dominican, since we were out of the country we drafted and noterized a release of medical care to our parents who were watching LO. that way if that had to give him medical attention it would be immediate..... I'm pretty sure someone on here advised me to do it.

We have some flashlights and canned food and stuff. Our main thing was agreeing on places to meet if we got separated and couldn't get back to the DC area for whatever reason (natural disaster or attack of some kind).

We need to get our acts together and do wills!

We have a month food supply kit that is good for 20 years in our basement. We also have huge water containers in our garage. Our house has earthquake ties- our house is over 100 years old and sturdy. We have an ammo stockpile- but that's not for an emergency sometimes there is not much available.

We have a will- guardian for T, plans for the dogs, intentions for our real estate/assets/life insurance.

We have a tornado kit in the basement: bottled water, flashlights, a radio, the closet with pillows set up, ect. But that's about it. We just go down there when it gets bad, if it gets really dicey we head to the closet since it is away from windows.

We don't' have a will in place but it's on our to do list, we know who would get the girls (BIL and SIL) and my parents would control the money so that way they have to work together but we need to get it in writing.

Natural disaster: we have a hard-wired automatic generator which turns on if power is out for more than 15 seconds. We have enough propane for it to run for several weeks. We also are really lucky to have a full basement and walk-in pantry, so we have several cases of bottled water and plenty of food on hand (we don’t buy food specifically for any disaster purpose, we just have more on hand since we have more space to store it). We have a bunch of flashlights, several first aid kits, etc.

Other disasters: we each have decent life insurance on the other; enough to pay off the mortgage and cushion the blow of lost income. Our estate goes to a trust for LO, so baring the trustee acting insanely irresponsibly, she would be financially ok.

We live in a house in the burbs. When we moved in, we had some electrical work done where we split the panels so that we could shut one down and run one with all the things we needed to stay in the house. We also have a generator and we store gas in a construction-type lockbox. We also have a gas tank on our property that powers our pool heater...it can be rerouted to our outdoor grill if needed.

In the main areas, we have these things plugged into the outlets that illuminate when power is lost. We also keep an emergency lantern charging in the guest room.

We also have go bags in the closet in the basement.

We used to have a "go bag" when they told us we might be evacuated for hurricane sandy....we should probably do that again. But honestly if a disaster were to happen in the city, we'd either be going to a shelter or holing up in our apartment....getting out of the city would be impossible.

In terms of the power going out, we have some candles and flashlights but the power very rarely goes out here. All the wires are underground so we only lose power if the grid gets overloaded.

We have a will so our wishes fo our LO's and animals are in place in case something happens. We also have a medical power of attorney for my sister to make decisions for our LO in case we are unable to do so.

In our cars, we keep a small box with bottled water, clif bars, wet wipes, diapers, bandages and a flashlight. Under our bed we keep a flashlight, and there are candles under the sink of each bathroom. Our stove is gas, so we can cook if we lose power, and we always have 1-3 bottles of distilled water stored somewhere just in case.

0 disaster preparedness over here--although, I *have* been planning to get an indoor-use camp stove (some camp stoves are dangerous indoors, I guess because of the type of gas they use? not sure) in case of longer-term power outages, like hurricane Sandy. They are small so can be stored in a cabinet, but then you have a way to cook/heat things if there's no power and you have electric stoves/microwave, etc.

I've seen some on Amazon, and have just been too lazy to buy it.

We have a will drawn up by an attorney that covers who we decided on as guardians for the kids... Other than that I'm not really prepared for disaster. I've got a first aid kit in the car & and road kit with flares and jumper cables but that's about it. I should probably be more prepared!

I'm curious to see what everyone does to prepare for things like losing power or a natural disaster and also planning for the event that both you and DH are unable to care for LO.

Natural Disaster - What supplies do you keep in your house? Your car? Do you have a generator? What else do you do?

Life Event - In the event you and DH pass away suddenly or are unable to care for LO, what is your plan? Do you have anything in writing? If so, was it drafted by an attorney?

I'm planning a vacation for DH and I without LO so I got to thinking about these things!
