@SweetCaroline: @caterw: @Eminthevalley: thanks for the info, ladies. Yeah, I don't think Blue Apron is what I'm looking for, either. The meal planning is probably more interesting. I don't mind shopping, but don't have that much time or even desire to make fancy stuff. Lol!

@Eminthevalley: oh sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for - Home Chef is a meal kit service and not a meal planning service. The only meal planning services I'm familiar with are Plated and eMeals, and I think they both have low-carb options.

I'm vegetarian and my husband is vegan. Last year we tried Green Chef and ordered the vegan meals, but I thought they were pretty awful. I think we cancelled after 2 weeks worth of meals.

We are currently using Purple Carrot, which we both like. I think Purple Carrot only provides vegan meals though, but everything we have had the last few weeks has been good. The prep/cooking time hasn't been too bad, but to be honest my husband does all the cooking so he could probably provide more info than me.

@danda: right...what I'm talking about is quite different. You might like PrepDish. You get a menu and shopping list for the week and you prep everything and buy everything yourself.

@elljay: but is it still a meal kit? I'm looking for a planner where you go buy food yourself.

@GoGoSnoGirl: this is different than Blue Apron as with prep dish and real plans you have to go shopping yourself. Blue Apron is a meal kit and it as well as similar are all very expensive! What I'm looking at is $15/month.

@Mommy Finger: I will let you know! Somewhere in my googling I ran across a planner that was al, freezer meals. I have done Once a Month Meals in the past and it's mostly freezer stuff.

FYI you can view lueApron recipes without joining. -
https://www.blueapron.com/cookbook

For us, Blue Apron was too much work and it cut out the part we like (grocery shopping). If ingredients had come pre-cut and pre-measured would be a different story.

@Eminthevalley: I was thinking of subscribing to Real Plans myself. My only issue is that I usually have about 15 minutes from the time we get home from work/school to get dinner on the table. And that includes getting the boys settled and distracted but I usually have my almost 2 yo pleading to be held. I can try to prep over the weekend and possibly the night before but the dinner rush is brutal! I would love to know if they have quick recipes or ones that can be plopped in the slow cooker.

ETA: I also did Whole 30 in January but only lasted 2 weeks. Really wanting to kick that back into high gear and then stay in the Paleo land.

We've been doing Home Chef for a few months and I love it - the recipes require A LOT less prep than Blue Apron. They also have carb-conscious options (although I'm not sure if they qualify as Paleo).

@GoGoSnoGirl: BlueApron is awesome if you love to cook and have a ton of time to do it... but I have definitely had recipes that take almost an hour to make and also ones that use every dish in the house and make an ENORMOUS mess. The food is amazing, and I saved all of my recipe cards for nights when I have 45 minutes to thinly slice a shallot and fry it in coconut oil as a garnish :silly:

I would also love a meal planner (preferably with a shopping list)! We don't eat Paleo but I am trying to eat cleaner and get some new ideas for dinners.

@GoGoSnoGirl: My impression of Blue Apron is that it's for people who want to learn how to cook or who know how to cook, but don't have time to grocery shop. For me, I know how to cook, but I don't have time (or make time?) to meal plan. Don't send me a head of garlic and teach me how to mince it. Send me minced garlic. :silly:

Following, as well! DH wants to sign up for Blue Apron, but to hear just the names/descriptions of the dishes, I'm guessing there's a fair amount of time involved in prep with them, too. We don't specifically eat paleo, but like it.

Following! I haven't tried a meal planning service yet, but have tried HelloFresh and Blue Apron. I enjoyed HelloFresh, but it still had too many preparation steps for a weeknight.

We are most successful with freezer meals, but I'm not yet on a fantastic rotating schedule of making them. Interested to hear about this other option!

I tried PrepDish for a couple of months but got a little tired of it...but we need to get back on the Paleo way of life for many reasons. I have been doing Whole30 but couldn't make it past two weeks...just struggling with the planning of it all. What I liked about PrepDish is that the recipes were great and it left room for flexibility. It sends you 4 meals per week + one side + one breakfast + one dessert. There is a shopping list and prep instructions. In theory, you spend about 2 hours prepping on the weekend and then throughout the week you just throw stuff in the oven. In reality, finding 2 hours a week to do said prep with 4-year-old twins just.didn't.happen. Heck finding 45 minutes when someone wasn't screaming at me and I wasn't too tired....but I digress.
Anyway, would love to hear if others have tried similar services. I see Real Plans features Nom Nom Paleo recipes so am thinking of trying that one, but a search for "Paleo meal planning" brings up so many options! Reviews needed, please!
