My kids were both eating regular kid-friendly food at that age, they just needed the big chunks cut up. I think they stopped drinking milk and started drinking what the big kids get around 13 or 14 months.

Dropping the bottle took longer though... DD is 18 months and still drinks from one even if it's not milk. She can handle a cup in theory, but she can't resist playing with the water or tossing in some food to see if it floats. Even if it's a sippy or straw cup, she just wails until I open the lid so she can play around :bummed:

We stopped breastfeeding at 6 months, so she was totally on formula after that. We started gradually switching over to cow's milk a few days before her 1st birthday and had her completely switched within a couple of weeks. Luckily, she never cared about the difference in milk.

She moved into the toddler room at daycare around 13 months old. They prefer not to do bottles, but they do sippy cups. We started breaking her in with sippy cups gradually around 6 months, so by then she was fine taking one.

The best part about being off formula (as far as daycare goes) is now that she drinks cow's milk, daycare provides all her milk. We take an empty cup in the morning. They provide her milk and water in the cup and wash it out between each use. It's so much easier in the mornings just grabbing a clean empty cup, rather than having to make a bunch of bottles! (At our daycare, if you wanted her to have breast milk instead, they would be fine with that as long as you brought in a cup of milk for each serving.)

She eats a solid breakfast, lunch, and snack each day at daycare. She switched from purees to solids around 10 months, and her daycare teachers were actually the ones encouraging me to make the switch. She ate solid food for them better than she did for me because she saw the other kids around her age eating it. They have meals like taquitos, spaghetti, fish, cereal or oatmeal with fruit in the mornings, graham crackers for snacks.

@PawPrints: Yeah, that was my understanding too. I think by "bottles" they maybe meant that she would not be taking any breastmilk or formula during the "school" day?

You ladies are awesome--thank you for much for your responses! These are really, really helpful.

At 12 months she doesn't get bottles but has a sippy cup with meals. She still nurses once during the day and at wakeup and bedtime, maybe once again in the afternoon is she wants.
She eats whatever the rest of us are eating.
Today it was Annie's, raspberries, steamed broccoli, and some leftover chicken.

None of my kids have done purées past eight months and none have used bottles.

My son is 16 months and his typical schedule is:

7:00 - breastfeed
9:00 - brekfast at daycare
10:30 - straw cup of 4 oz breastmilk
12:00 - lunch
1:00 - cup of bm before nap
4:00 - cup of bm after nap with snack
6:30 - dinner
8:00 - breastfeed/bottle before bed

This is pretty consistent with the schedule they have for all the kids at daycare, for this age, my son just gets bm while most other kids get whole milk.

This has, pretty much, been the same since 9-12 months. Just switched from bottles to cups around 12 months and from 6 oz bm to 4 oz at around the same time. I'm still pumping once most days, but I'm about to give that up because I'm just not making that much. But I've got a freezer stash, so we'll use that all up before switching to whole cow's milk.

That is really weird that they asked you about bottles. I thought it was pretty universal to get off of bottles ASAP after 12 months.

At 15 months, DD was nursing 2x/day (morning and night), and in between eating 100% table food, with WCM and water to drink. Her daycare provides her food (made from scratch by an in-house cook) and she gets a really great variety in their 6-week rotating menu. At home, I was (and continue to) giving her some of whatever DH and I were eating, plus some staples if she didn't like our food that day (whole grain bread with PB, string cheese and cheddar cheese, steamed frozen or fresh vegetables, oranges/pineapple/blueberries/banana, tofu, crackers).

My kiddo is 17 months. I weaned her from most daytime nursing around 15 months. Now she nurses at bedtime, overnight, and sometimes at wake up. She's been eating 3 meals and at least 2 snacks since 8 months. I aim for a fruit, a carb, and a protein (cheese, yogurt, egg, etc) for breakfast, a fruit, a veggie, and a protein (at minimum) for lunch, and a veggie, a protein, and a starch or carb (at minimum) for dinner. She eats what we eat for dinner, and lunch when possible. Snacks are simple, usually fruit or cheese.

@hellobeeboston: Oh my gosh...still only 2 teeth? C'mon little dude! Where are they??

DS2 is 16 months, and we just weaned him from his night bottle. When he moved up to the next room at day care, they don't do bottles anymore and we switched him cold turkey during the day. He does really well with a straw cup, and he drinks anywhere from 8-16 ounces of WCM from his straw cup during meals/snack time. His schedule usually looks like this:

Breakfast: Yogurt, dry cereal, toast
Morning Snack: Banana or whatever the school provides for snack. Snack bar, crackers, fish, etc.
Lunch: We usually do a meat and fruit/veggies. He's into chicken and meatballs right now, so we'll alternate days on those, then cut up grapes/berries (will eat a whole carton of raspberries in one sitting if we'd let him), carrots/peas
Afternoon snack: same as above for morning snack
Dinner: he's a light dinner eater. Usually he's had a big lunch, so he's not so hungry for dinner, but we'll try whatever we're eating. He LOVES watermelon, so we'll usually give that for his dessert.

Milk cup is with all of those. He'll drink water too, but he prefers milk a ton.

@nellywm: You'd be surprised what they can eat without teeth. My LO is 11 months and exclusively eats table food and breastmilk. She only has her two front bottom teeth. It can be scary at first to start giving table foods, but they're capable of more than you'd think. :)

@atoz: With #1 we went cold turkey with cups and cows milk at one. He would get a cup of milk with meals. Whatever we were eating in small bite sized pieces most of the time. He had access to a sippy cup of water all day and we still nursed morning and night. #2 will turn one in a month and I'm hoping to do the same.

DS is 14.5 months and eats what we eat. He nurses in the morning and before bed. We slowly started dropping sessions from the 4-5x/day he was nursing at 12 months. He doesn't like other milk (we've tried a ton!) so now he just has water in either a 360 cup or a Kleen kanteen. He has 12 teeth so he can eat pretty much anything. Breakfast is usually scrambled eggs, a few small pieces of toast with butter, whole fat yogurt and fruit. Lunch is leftovers - today he's eating meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas. And then dinner - tonight is mushroom risotto (one of his faves!) he has 2 snacks - usually more fruit, applesauce, a fruit bar, cottage cheese or maybe some goldfish crackers if we are feeling generous.
ETA: he goes to full time daycare at a center

My littlest LO is 15 months now. We're still doing bottles with him for cows milk... he wouldn't even take a bottle until he was about 9 months old, so we'll probably start to wean off of them in the next couple months, I know we're supposed to have quit the bottles by now, but it's his only vice! haha...

Here's how he is eating, and it's been like this since about 13 months:

Wakeup - 5oz bottle whole milk, mini bowl of dry cereal to snack on

Breakfast - Eggs, toast with cream cheese, fruit, sausage (usually) or oatmeal/pancakes, etc (we do big breakfasts)

Snack - either fruit or crackers or a bottle of milk

Lunch - whatever, usually leftovers, water

Bottle of milk before nap

Snack - cheese, fruit, cereal, crackers, whatever

Dinner (whatever we're eating)

Bottle of milk or warm water before bed

PS... he still only has 2 teeth! haha :silly:

I got a yumbox with 6 compartments for daycare around 18 months- I fill it with raspberries, peas, cottage cheese, shredded cheese, chopped ham or turkey, smushed blueberries, avacado etc. which is what she eats at home unless we are eating at the same time as us then we will give her parts of our dinner.

Also really curious about meals at this age! At this point (11 mos) my baby is devouring purees and we've given him some simple foods to gnaw on (bananas, eggs, etc.), but he still doesn't have teeth and I don't have tons of great ideas for meals that are a little more advanced than purees but aren't quite toddler food either.

I weaned from the breast around 9 mo, so at 12 mo we stopped formula and switched to WCM. She would have a morning/night straw cup filled up to about 8 oz each and 3 meals a day with snacks in between. At daycare at that point we were sending in her lunch and snacks.

Our day care does not allow bottles after their first birthday. At that age, DD was nursing in the morning, then getting two straw cups (about 5oz each) of breastmilk and one straw cup of water at school. She rarely finished both cups of milk at school, so she'd have the rest on the way home or with dinner and then nurse at bed. And she was eating 3 meals and 2 snacks -- same food as her 4 year old brother.

At 13mo DS went from nursing 4-5x a day to just nursing mornings and night. Then at 14mo he self weaned completely. I was totally surprised he self weaned since he was always a little obsessed with nursing but I also am pregnant which may have affect taste/supply.
At 12mo he was eating 3 meals and an afternoon snack, which is still true today at 15mo.

My LO isn't quite there yet, but from what I've heard I will be sending 2 bottles or straw cups of breastmilk (or cows) and then a meal and a snack. LO has breakfast at home, then will get milk and snack around 930, lunch at 11, milk at 2, and is home for a snack at 4.

A snack is fruit and a car (like blueberries and cheerios). A meal is 2 purees (daycare requires purees only until he has 4 teeth). At home he has half a peanut butter sandwich, peas, fruit, and a veggie pouch.

DD is 15 months old. I stopped nursing on demand at 12 months and she wasn't quickly on just two sessions, morning and night. She weaned about two weeks ago. I definitely wouldn't be sending bottles to daycare at this age. She eats 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. She drinks a cup of whole milk with breakfast and with dinner.

B started daycare at 12 months. In the 6 weeks leading up to that I weaned him down to just nursing in the morning and before bed - during the day he was on all solids, 3 meals and 2 snacks, plus whole milk. I think it's really up to you, though. Personally, I wouldn't bother with all the stress/hassle of pumping and getting her to take a bottle. That's also a long time ago, she may wean herself by then - by 15 months B had given up the morning and night sessions on his own.

DD will be starting daycare in the fall when she's about 15 months. I was surprised to hear providers bring up the question of the bottle at that age...we're EBFing now but even if she's still nursing at that age, I kind of figured it would just be in the morning or at night and she wouldn't be taking a bottle during the day. But she's my first, so I really don't know what I'm doing!

When did your little one stop taking breast milk or formula during the day? What did the daily meals look like around that age?
