@Chillybear: For pain that severe, I would for sure recommend seeing a physical therapist who specializes in the pelvic floor. They work wonders, and it seemed to me they did a better job of addressing the root causes of my pain.

I love seeing the chiro, even when I'm not pregnant. But seeing him while I was did wonders for my sciatic pains! I highly recommend going!

I had back problems before getting pregnant, so I continued to see my regular chiropractor when I had issues during pregnancy. I did let him know I was pregnant. (My first visit during pregnancy was around 17 weeks.) He did make some modifications to the treatments, and he has a table that can drop where my belly was. I figured that was best for me, since he already knew my history.

For me, chiropractic visits are covered by insurance, so I just pay a copay each time I go.

This is a great site for finding someone in your area trained specifically for prenatal, kids, etc: http://icpa4kids.org/Find-a-Chiropractor/

I've used chiros for both pregnancies and for my kids and I'm a fan. Helped with lots of neck and back pain I had. One chiro didn't do insurance but gave you a super bill you could submit yourself. I didn't have chiropractic coverage then so we just paid. Another one we did have coverage and they basically just had a minimum charge so they collected payment and submitted against insurance toward your deductible. Once my deductible kicked in (pregnancy and birth!), I didn't pay anything for visits because insurance paid their rate!

I saw a prenatal chiropractor for several sessions and the biggest difference I saw in prenatal vs. “regular” was that the exam bed things has a space for your belly to rest on it and that my chiro wouldn’t do some of the normal adjustments because I was pregnant – she did much gentler/softer adjustments.

The insurance aspect was very straight forward. My insurance covers a specific number of chiropractor visits each calendar year; it made no difference to my insurance whether that was prenatal chiro or not. I believe my co-pay was at a specialist rate, so if you have different co-pay amounts for specialists, that might be something to confirm as well with your insurance.

I had significant hip, pelvic and back pain and found the best remedy and pain management course was seeing a physical therapist several times a week. I also ended up seeing an osteopathic doctor who specializes in pregnancy/prenatal care for weekly osteopathic manipulative treatments (OMT) during my third trimester who (in conjunction with my OB) also put me on very high doses of DHA to fight inflammation (and the resulting pain). The PT, the DHA and the OMTs helped tremendously!

OMT is a bit similar to chiropractors in that the manipulative treatment is physical care where the doctor physically manipulates your muscles and joints and uses gentle pressure and resistance to properly align you. In my experience, it was *extremely* gentle and pleasant.

This is my second pregnancy and with my first I had a lot of hip flexor pain, and lower back pain starting midway through the 2nd trimester through postpartum.

I'm just about 15 weeks currently and I've had relatively easy pregnancy so far and with my first (except a bout with kidney stones at 20 weeks). I've never gone to a chiropractor before and I mentioned being interested in going to my OB, she thought it was a good idea as she's used one in the past. I'm new to the area and her's is in a major city which wouldn't easy or convenient for me to go to.

Can you guys share your experiences with me? Also what should I look for when trying to find a prenatal chiropractor or questions to ask? Did you find your appointments were covered by insurance or did you pay out of pocket?
