Just wanted to chime in and say that LO still nurses whenever he wants, without complaint, even though I pump weaned at 10.5m. I think during the day, there's certainly less than morning/night but for nursing to sleep before a nap or whatever on a random day off, there's enough that he's content, so maybe it won't be an issue for you either!

@avivoca: no advice but i'm about to do this too, so just wanted to wish you good luck! i have dropped from 3 to 2, and am preparing to drop to one, but LO is only 8 months, so you're a rockstar for making it this long :)

@jetsa: I thought he would care, but he doesn't! I will occasionally nurse him to sleep for a nap but I give him a straw cup of WCM first.

I started removing one pumping session each week, and splitting the time difference in half to relieve my engorgement. When I stopped pumping, the engorgement was pretty uncomfortable come evening time so I'd hand express a little in the shower where I felt clogs forming. That helped tremendously, but didn't signal my body to produce more. Took me about 3 weeks from start to finish for my body to adjust.

@Boheme: what do you do on days your home? I don't think J will give it up easily when we are home but who knows. I don't intend to stop those 3 sessions (morning, after work, bedtime) for awhile.

I currently pump at 9:30 and 2:30, My plan is to go down to one session at noon 9/8-9/11 and then we're going on vaca 9/15-9-18 and then the next week I don't intend to pump at all during the day unless I'm in pain.

I'm super nervous about vaca being in the middle bc I know he'll nurse during the day but I'm ready to be done with the pump!

DS is already on a sippy and will take WCM fine so we just use it to supplement if he wants more than 6 -8 oz at daycare. I don't mix bc he'll take it either way and I don't want to confuse him.

I dropped from 2 20 minute sessions to 2 10 minute sessions. Then I dropped one of the 10 minute sessions the next week. Then the next week I didn't pump at all. Since my supply was dropping during the day anyway, it was surprisingly easy. LO just nurses morning, dinner time, and bedtime now.

I removed one pump session a week. Prior to removing that session, I pumped less and less each day. I also shifted my pumps so that I was spreading them out to be even.

So for example, if I was pumping:

11:00 a.m. for 30 minutes
3:00 p.m. for 30 minutes

To remove one, I would decrease both by a couple minutes each day and then the following week, I'd only pump at 1:00 p.m. for 30 minutes. Then that week, I'd probably pump for 5 minutes less each day until it was gone.

Hope that was clear! Good luck! :goodluck:

A few weeks before I planned to stop pumping I went from 2 pump sessions down to 1 and split the difference in time (so I was pumping at 10:30 and 2 and went down to 1 pump session around noon). That's pretty much all I did. Once I stopped pumping completely I was engorged for a couple of days, but then I was back to normal.

I know I've posted a ton lately about my breastfeeding woes, but we've made it to almost 11 months of EBF now and I am starting to think about pump weaning. My job will not allow me to pump at work beyond a year, which is fine by me since I'm not a fan of the pump.

As it is, I am only getting 4-6 oz. in two pump sessions, and I have exactly 12.5 oz. in my freezer stash. At this rate, I will not be able to pump extra in order to stop pumping early.

If you've pump weaned, how did you do it and what's the best way to go about it so that I don't get mastitis/plugged ducts? I plan on introducing WCM mixed with BM once she turns 11 months and around 11.5 months transitioning from a bottle to milk in a sippy cup.
