@Mrs. High Heels: @coacheswife123:

Thank you! I'll definitely check out kellymom. I appreciate the support, I feel like I *just* got breastfeeding figured out and now I have to add pumping, too!

To answer your specific questions...

When you first started pumping, did you just keep milk on the fridge and then give it to your LO within the same day or couple if days? Nope, I froze it all except what I needed for one feeding. If you go to Kellymom (sorry not on comp or else I'd link it), most breast fed babies take in about 25 ounces per day, so the general rule is to divide that with how many times you're nursing. If you're nursing 10x/day, then each feeding is estimated to be about 2.5 oz. There is fluctuation sometimes, but that's the general rule. LO may need more during growth spurt times too.

Did you immediately start a freezer stash? Yes.

How do you know how much expressed milk to give LO? What I wrote above. Lots of great info on Kellymom. Also look through the threads filed under "pumping" - great info here from HBers!

And how long before you established a comfortable routine? I started pumping right away this time around when LO was 1-2 weeks old, and I think it took me about another week or two to find my rhythm and figure out what worked best for me.

You can do this! Good luck!

I started pumping once a day at 1 week. My husband would give him a bottle at night and I would pump the next days bottle. We kept them in the fridge !

We started at 2 oz and went up ok .5 oz increments from there. 2 oz was plenty to start with that early.

After a few weeks I began to block feed because of oversupply issues. At that time I started my freezer stash. I would pump the side he didn't nurse on in the morning and freeze it and in the evenings pump his bottle for the next night while he took a bottle from my husband. For that morning pump I would just pump the equivalent of what he was taking in bottles . As he began to take more I increased accordingly for my morning pump session

I was overwhelmed too - but established a routine pretty quickly !

At almost 4 months pp I have about 450 oz in my freezer stash and pump 3 times a day at work !

At 3-wks LO only needed about 2.5 oz so I would give that amount in a bottle and freeze the rest to start building a stash!

Since you're home for awhile, I'd start by giving just a bottle a day, and nurse the rest of the time... And if you want to keep building your stash I would pump after some of those nursing sessions.

LO is 3 weeks today and that's when my lactation consultant said we could start pumping. I'm completely overwhelmed, to be honest!

When you first started pumping, did you just keep milk on the fridge and then give it to your LO within the same day or couple if days?
Did you immediately start a freezer stash?
How do you know how much expressed milk to give LO?
And how long before you established a comfortable routine?

I'm not going back to work until July/August, so I have time to figure it all out, I'm just not sure where to start.
