@ScarletBegonia: We went cold turkey into sleep sacks around 4 months, but he had been busting out of the swaddle for a week, so I think he was ready. I tried weaning him from the sleep sacks last week at 6 months and that is so NOT happening right now :)

I had the sleepsack with the wings too, and I just went very gradual. One arm out, then two, then wrapped the sleep sack looser and looser and then used a regular sleep sack. No problems.

I was super stressed about swaddle weaning but it was quite easy. We went from the swaddleme Velcro swaddlers to a halo sleepsack. We did about two days of having her in sleepsack just for naps but kept her swaddled at night. Then we jus took the plunge and went to the sack at night. We also introduced a lovey around the same time (5 months). It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Good luck!

I stressed about it because LO was a flail-er. We were using Halo sleepsacks with the swaddle, too. I ordered the Merlin but it was too small. I think she was 3.5 months or so & we just went cold turkey. We swaddled her middle but left both arms out. I wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting! I think you just have to do it.

We went to the metlin and had to go cold turkey after that. But E was rolling too hard at 3 months to ditch the swaddle totally

Well we're going cold turkey now cause he woke me up last night at 5am screaming, and was on his stomach  He hadn't rolled over properly from back to front yet, so I'm surprised he was able to do it swaddled! He's taking his first unswaddled nap at the moment and is 15 minutes in with no wake ups - to be honest I thought we'd be lucky to get 5 minutes. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for the tips & advice.

We went from the swaddle to the baby merlin magic sleep suit. If we put him down when he was sleepy without the sleep suit he would always wake up. Now I think I'm going to attempt to wean from the sleep suit and start using a regular sleep sack.

We just went cold turkey yesterday and I'm surprised how well it's going. His sleep is mostly the same but it has taken slightly liger to get him to go down. We went from a sleep sack with swaddle like you have to a regular sleep sack. I made the switch because he was breaking out of the swaddle no matter how tightly I'd wrapped him, fighting being swaddled, and wakin himself up trying to get out. So I think we might just be lucky with our transition and he was ready for it?

We bought the zipadeezip. We LOVE it, and it helped immensely. K loves the swaddle, so it was hell when we tried to go cold turkey. She's still in the zippy at almost 11 months, but because they come in bigger sizes, she could potentially wear it until age two. We're probably going to take her out of it at a year, because she's starting to be able to unzip it herself.

Cold turkey. We tend to go cold turkey on all of these kinds if transitions. I'd rather have a few days of no fun than a lot of days of mediocre progress.

We went cold turkey at 5 months I think. We had one rough day/night and then she adjusted perfectly.

We went cold turkey with our daughter. We went from a SwaddleMe to just a plain Halo sleepsack- arms all out, no swaddling her belly. We also sleep trained, moved her into her crib, and introduced a lovey. It was a tough 2 nights, but it's been great ever since!

M just gradually weaned off it himself. One night he fell asleep before I could swaddle him, and it was the first night he slept for a long period of time.

Maybe start with swaddling with arms out? M did that for a bit before quitting cold turkey. I also stopped swaddling for naps.

How did it go for you? Did you go cold turkey or gradual? If you used something like the Magic Merlin suit, did you then just have to wean off that at a later time?

My son sleeps in a Halo sleep sack at the moment, that can be adjusted to one arm in/one arm out, and can swaddle around his middle/chest only as well.

Would love to hear the advice of ladies who have gone before me!
