@Honeygold89: I prefer orally. I sometimes (probably often) sleep with my mouth open, which can cause rocky temperatures, but I just prefer oral temping.

@Honeygold89: oral is fine for most people, for me I sometimes sleep with my mouth open apparently so my temps were more accurate when I switched to vaginal.

I start the day after AF ends (I used to temp during AF too, but those temps were always a little all over the place so now I don't worry about taking them)

I use a BBT from Walmart that was around $8. I wish it was backlit though. I have to take out my phone after I take my temp to be able to see what the display says!

You have to temp first thing when you wake up before you do anything, even get out of bed. So I set an alarm at 5:25am. When I worked, I took my temperature then got up. Now I temp and go back to sleep. I just keep it that early bc DH still gets up at 5:30 for work and it always wakes me up, and then I usually talk to him for a bit before going back to sleep. Doing that could mess up my temperature if I took it after.

Like the other posters said, Fertility friend is a great app with lots of information!

It's important to start now because it won't show a clear shift in your chart to indicate O until you have 3 temps that are higher (i think .4 degrees) than your previous 6. So if you O around day 11 or `12, you'll probably have just enough data to confirm.

I'd start ASAP if possible.

you'll need a basal body thermometer. Look in the OPK/condom section of a drugstore. The CVS brand one is my favorite.

You need to temp consistently at the same time each day as soon as you've woken up from at least 3 hours sleep. I set an alarm for 7 a.m. (the earliest I wake up) and temp at that time each day (most days I'll go back to sleep for at least a little while).

Do you use a charting app already? If not I suggest Fertility Friend. They also have a lot of good tutorials that are free.

And you might want to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

I got a lot of tips from the Fertility Friend website Q & A. I use a basal body thermometer (mine is Target brand) when I wake up in the morning.

Good luck!

1. First thing in the morning, before you get out of bed
2. Same time every morning or as close as you can get
3. A basal thermometer, easily found at any drugstore!
