Well I have a 15 month old that we will soon transition to a toddler bed and I'm scared!!! He hates his crib so we're trying to move him from our bed. I have no advice but just wanted to commiserate with you. We are trying to transition him before the new baby comes in May. I'm not looking forward to it.

@BabyBoecksMom: Yeah I have seen those! I'm not sure if he would be able to grasp that but it might be worth a try, thanks for the suggestion!

@littlek: We need the crib for the new baby (it doesn't transition to a toddler bed). We're trying to transition her a month or two before the baby gets here in an attempt to keep her from feeling like the baby stole her bed.

@T-Mom: I saw a "toddler alarm clock" that changes color to let them know when it's ok to get up. I'm not sure if that would work on your son or not.

@BabyBoecksMom: at least for the time being, I would probably just let her cry for a while when she wakes up.. this worked for my DS and he didn't even cry that long. The transition to floor bed has been kind of rough, though. We put a mattress on the floor near his crib, just to prepare him for the transition, and he one day just decided he wanted to sleep there and never looked back. However, he has been waking up like at 3:30 and showing up next to our bed. Short of locking the door from the outside, i'm not sure what else to do.. I was kind of hoping it was a phase but he's been doing this for 2 weeks now...

@BabyBoecksMom: Seriously. He just kept on going and going. It was made worse by trying to take off his coat, snowpants, and boots. He tried to put his boots back on too. For some reason, his play kitchen broke the spell of it. After it ended, I called my mom who mentioned that he didn't throw tantrums for them when he visited. He saved it up for us because he's been a tantrum machine since he came home after a few days stay there.

@BabyBoecksMom: Do you have to move her out of crib? I would consider keeping her in there till she gets past this phase. I plan on keeping B in the crib until he crawls out.

@cascademom: Oh no - no fun! I can't get over how long her tantrums go for... and it's not like she can even remember what she's screaming about after 10 min - haha!

@T-Mom: She's still in the crib, but we're trying to move her to a twin bed by the end of this month. When she wakes at night, she'll cry and cry until one of us goes in there, and then she'll plop back down and pass out. It's so frustrating because she has to see us in order to fall asleep. (this didn't happen before we took the paci away... I was hoping that giving it back would stop it)

Was the transition to a floor bed difficult? Did he wake more?

@BabyBoecksMom: I can't comment on toddler sleep training, but yesterday, I got through a 30 minute tantrum with LO after coming inside from the cold and snow. Goldfish couldn't coax him out of this epic tantrum.

Is your DD still in the crib? We still had success doing periodic CIO over the age of 2, but only because my DS was still in the crib and didn't try to get out. He would eventually give up and also has his binky. Now it's harder because he's sleeping on a floor bed, and can easily get up and open the door. I would try it if she can stay in the crib.. Or if someone stays with her till she falls asleep, does that work? (Not ideal though, I know)

I have always said that I would love if DD wanted to cuddle more, but I guess I should have specified that I wanted it during the day, not the middle of the night....

We have sleep trained using the CIO method when she was younger, but now that she's almost 2, and stubborn as a mule, I don't know if we'll be able to get her to CIO. Her tantrums can easily last 45 min now, so, as sleep deprived as I am, I'm terrified of losing even more sleep. But, I need to get this under control before DD2 gets here in 3 months.

Did you have a hard time sleep training your toddler?
