@mrs. bird: what are your hotel choices? I loved Aria as well as Cosmopolitan. Also have stayed at mandalay bay but it is mot as central. The problem I had was the time change but we were with party animals so it was hard!

I love Vegas. We go a few times a year. I signed up for all of the major casinos' players club programs so now we get offers for discounted rooms pretty regularly. If you sign up, some offer some free money (maybe around $20 or so) to play the slots with. It's not a ton but it's free money! The Encore is my favorite hotel to stay at since it doesn't take forever and a day to walk from the parking structure to the hotel elevators. I don't drink much in Vegas but oh my goodness the FOOD is amazing there.

I highly recommend: The Buffet at the Wynn, the pastry shop in the Paris (don't remember the name), the buffet at the Bellagio, and The Coffee Shop in Treasure Island for some yummy breakfasts. Grand Lux Cafe (in Venetian & Palazzo) is good but it is a Cheesecake Factory owned restaurant so it's predictable but one of the few places open all night where you can get a ton of food in the middle of the night close to where we usually stay. The Eiffel Tower Restaurant in the Paris has beautiful views of the Strip and has some great French food and yummy creme brûlée.

Staying on the Strip and just walking up and down is so much fun. Best people watching ever. I like gambling in Cesar's because the casino is wide open and it doesn't get as smokey as some of the older casinos like Luxor or TI. The monorail that runs along the strip is a good alternative to taking taxis everywhere and it's much cheaper. I think there is a stop at every 3-4 casinos.

If you have a car and feel like taking a short half day trip, there is great outlet center 45 minutes outside of Vegas in Primm, NV just before you get to the California state line.

In N Out is amazing burgers for a fast food chain. I forget what exit off the 15 it's at but worth going to if you're out and about. As much as I love it, there are other, better places to eat in Vegas that don't involve a trip in the car.

ETA: can you tell I love to eat? I seriously try to lose 5 pounds before we go so I can eat whatever, whenever I want.

@mrs. bird: I looked at the map and its definitely walkable, as long as you don't mind the hike. The Rio was on the other side of the highway and impossible to walk to the strip. I still recommend staying right on the strip, only because its so convenient and you're going to be doing so much walking as is!

@mrs. bird: April should be great weather. Sorry missed that in your post haha. Also if you are a big shopper there is an outlet mall not to far away. We drove to Vegas so we had a car but I'm sure the can wouldn't be too far. It was worth it for us to go!

@TurtleDoves: oh man we walked into an elevator right after two guys apparently smoked weed in there... I had to decide which was worse for the baby to breathe in the stench or hold my breath... I held my breath. Luckily we were only going up one floor.

We went when I was about 20 weeks. The smoking is definitely annoying. I kept having to move away from people in the casinos or on the street. We still had fun, though. I've seen several of the Cirque shows - we bought tickets at the Tickets for Less booth. I really liked the Beatles one. There are also a bunch of comedy shows that you can buy tickets to the day of. The buffet at Aria is fantastic if you like seafood. I also love Hash House a Go Go for breakfast.

I second just walking through the hotels and checking them out! I liked the dessert place in Paris. The buffet at Planet Hollywood was pretty good and one of the cheaper ones.

Are you a Trekkie by any chance? There is a big Star Trek museum we went to with our friends. Even though we aren't into Star Trek it was still fun.

I've heard the Zappos outlet is good and there is a shuttle from the strip but I'vr never gone.

Going KU was HELL for me. I was 6w along. First of all: everyone.every.one smokes everywhere.every where in Vegas.
Then, no drinking (but I don't drink)
and then: The food.
It was everywhere and looked incredible, but I had to sit there and watch DH eat because I had terrible MS. Like, I wasn't vomitting at that point, but smells and sights of food make me gag.
So, we will be repeating the treat next year. It sucked for me. Dh had fun still. He dragged me along. I was like a sick, little puppy.

Definitely splurge on a show- any of the Cirque du Soliel ones are fantastic (my favorite is "Ka"- its less circusy, more samarai if your DH isn't really into shows). Definitely plan for a nice dinner- I love Delmonico's in the Venetian or Joel Robochon in the MGM.
The shops at Caesars are perfect for window shopping! And definitely hit up one of the pools at one of the hotels on the strip- a lot of the regular "pool parties" don't start until after Memorial Day weekend, so they're a little bit more calm before then. Mandalay Bay has a fun one, as does the Hard Rock.
Oh! Free stuff to do: fountain show outside the Bellagio every night, and the "Sirens of TI" outside Treasure Island is cute too.

A lot of hotels have shuttles from casino to casino so definitely take advantage of these to save on cab fare. Watch the Bellagio watershow (amazing). And Mirage and Treasure Island free nightly shows for the public. Take advantage of the spas! You can buy a one day spa pass (usually around $20) and you have full access to the spa and gym. TOTALLY worth it. If you want to buy show tickets, head over to the Fashion Show Mall and look for the Tickets For Less booth. They have deeply discounted tickets but you have to buy them the day of. They also have discounted restaurant coupons. If you like Brazilian, we always go to Pampas Restaurant in Planet Hollywood because the restaurant coupons are such a good deal Let's see....check out the gondolas at the Venetian. And you must walk around Caesars Palace Forum Shops.

Definitely stay on the strip. No use in going if you don't, not to me anyway. I like not having to rent a car, etc.

My sister and I just got back Sunday as we celebrated her 30th on Saturday. We stayed for the weekend and stayed at Treasure Island. I liked it, although I'd prefer Planet Hollywood. It seems to be smack dab in the middle of everything. We went to hypnotist show there and my sister got hypnotized.lol We also used the tram, waste of time in the length you have to walk JUST to get to the thing. We used it because of drinking and heels...still was a waste.lol

@winniebee: i'm looking at pictures of the rooms at each of the options, i think i'd happily go to bed early each night in the giant king size bed! i imagine it would be a good place to be a hungry preggo with all the food ;)

@chopsuey: there are 17 hotels i can pick from & use points for the room. one is right on the strip, but it doesn't look as nice (it's not bad or anything, has good reviews, just nothing fancy) & might be kinda loud, there are a few a couple blocks away that look very nice & have free shuttles, so that might be best. i remember loving just walking around the different hotels & shops when i was a teenager, i imagine it would still be fun :)

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: noted!

@MamaJ: ooo, good point! i should look up the average temps in april

ok, so what's up with all the jacuzzis and glass showers being open to the bedrooms??? one place is very nice, but in the reviews they talk about how there's no door to the bedroom from the rest of the suite and you can see the glass shower and jacuzzi from the living room. i don't mind shower fun time, but sometimes i like privacy while i'm washing up! haha, i'm a prude apparently.

I went while I was in the TWW. I didn't drink as a result (though that was pointless, because I didn't get pregnant that cycle). My biggest recommendation is to stay on the strip! We stayed at the Rio, and it was such a pain to wait for the shuttle or pay for a cab.

Wear comfortable shoes, you'll do a lot of walking! We shopped, explored all the resorts, took pictures at the Las Vegas sign... it was really fun! If you do end up at the Rio one night, definitely go up to the rooftop restaurant. You can walk outside and get gorgeous pictures of the entire strip! Also, In N Out Burger is over that way, which is a definite must if you've never been ;)

I haven't been to Vegas in forever, but used to go often since I lived in CA. I'm not a big drinker or gambler and always had fun. :) I never stayed for more than 2 nights though.
Hotels off the strip are a lot more affordable, make sure you go to the Bellagio buffet (my fave back in the day) and check out the Lion King or one of the cirque shows if you have time!
It's a lot of fun just to walk through all the hotels, eye shop, see the water show at night..

i'm looking at booking our 30th birthday (eeeeeck!) trip for this coming april. our options are somewhat limited as far as where we go because we're using timeshare points to cover the hotel & many of the locations require you to use a full week, so we have to stay in one place rather than a few days here, a few days there. we were initially planning to go to europe, but flights are $$$ and that's no longer in the cards, so now i'm looking at vegas- 'cause we're childless, and why not do it pre-kids?! DH has never been & i haven't been since i was much younger & went with family.

we'll be on a pretty tight budget, have one week to fill, our suite would have a full kitchen so we could make some meals there, DH can't drink, i'll hopefully get KU by then, but hey, it's been 2yrs, so maybe i won't- i'm sick of planning life around TTC, so what will be, will be (the most i could be is 30wks if i got pg this cycle, so still able to fly!).

give me your tips, suggestions, and must see list for vegas! (or talk me out of it if you think going on a budget/with a sober spouse/possibly KU would be a terrible mistake)
