We swaddled until we sleep trained at 5 months. I loved this one:
http://www.woombie.com/the_original_woombie.html

This is what we do for naps & night: feeding, fresh diaper, sleep sack, read 3 board books, lights off (blackout shades on windows so room is very dark), white noise on, sing two songs, put down in crib awake. Seems long all typed out but it goes pretty fast.

For a 12 weeks old, I would prob add in swaddle, white noise, sleeping in a dark room (or use a car seat cover if you are on the go) and see if that helps.

@Grace: baby sleep IS weird. I figure time is really what's going to lengthen them! Thanks for the hope!

@Emsmems: Yea! The 30 min nap lasted until 5.5 months for us. It was only when I gave her 10 min to fall back asleep after waking that the nap started lengthening. Even now at 7 mo, there are still many days where she'll wake at 35 min, cry for 8 min and sleep another hour. Baby sleep is weird.

@Grace: we have been doing to swing for a couple weeks now so now I think it's time for the crib! Tried it today and it went pretty well, I just have to figure out how to get him to sleep more than 30 minutes for naps!

I do the exact same thing as bedtime. Nurse, 2 books, close curtains, sleep sack, close door, white noise, 2 songs, into crib, turn on mobile, walk out the door.

Have you tried the crib for naps yet? I had my LO falling asleep in my arms for months 1-3, falling asleep in swing for month 4 and she magically started napping in her crib at 4 months. You might be right around the corner of being done with bouncing and rocking.

We change diaper, get in sleep sack, reads book, turn on white noise, and sing a song. Pretty much the same as bedtime, I think it's good when they're similar!

I'm interested in this too. DD is 9, almost 10 weeks and I want to start a nap routine too. She takes so long to eat though that by the time she's done, we have almost no time for tummy time or anything else before we have to put her to sleep again. We have 30 min naps here for the most part too. I can usually manage to get her to take 1 long 2hr + nap.

DS is 12 weeks old, and our bedtime routine is consistent and I think helps DS go to sleep (and thanks for the suggestions to move his bedtime up, it has REALLY helped). DS really fights sleep during the day though, so I think we need to come up with a nap routine!

We had just been getting him sleepy by bouncing or walking and then putting him in the swing to fall to sleep, but it is taking longer and longer to get him to sleep and I know we lack a routine and consistency and I don't want to get him dependent on bouncing or swinging to nap (he isn't for nighttime sleep!) Also, his naps are usually only 30 min and I know they will lengthen with time, but I want to start putting him in his cribs for naps to maybe help with that.

SO... Long story short, what do you do for naps? Use the same white noise as at night? Do you swaddle? What is your "time for a nap" routine to get LO down?
