@jedeve: congrats on getting through it! Will there he an opportunity for an exit interview when you actually leave where you can be more honest about your reasons?

@jedeve: Glad it went well! I had the same conversation after I had my LO - I worked from home for 3 months then quit/was left go.
The confrontation was so awkward and I hated it. It was even awkward when I had to use them as a reference at the new job, 6 months later even though I left to "stay home".

I have to say, 8 months into the new job, I don't even think about it anymore and I'm loving the new company.

@jedeve: When my DH left one position to go to another (in the same company) he finally felt free and laid it all out to his old boss about what he was unhappy about there. I think that if you're on your way out, and was unhappy, why bottle it up... at that point, they can't punish you anymore. Lay it on them if it'll make you feel better! Nothing will change and get better unless they know what is wrong.

@jedeve: glad it went well, but I understand how you feel. I was the same way when I gave my notice at my last job. I loved the people I worked with, but I just couldn't stay.

I quit effective January and will work from home for ten hours a week until then. They were nice about it. I think the hard thing was that I couldn't say why I was quitting (I was just truly unhappy there and had concerns about the direction of the organization) and so it ended that I quit " to stay at home." Granted, that is what I will be doing since I would rather be at home than work at a new job right now but it's not really why I quit.

I hate that I will be working there for the next few months because I feel so awkward and guilty about everything. But we will just save the money and get used to living off one income. They did say they would leave the door open if I decided I wanted to return. So I guess there are no hard feelings.

Ugh. Confrontation gives me so much anxiety. I just want to put this all behind me.

Ah man, that sucks.

Don't feel bad about the sick pay thing.

My company paid for one of our consultants to go to a course to learn how to trouble shoot our equipment, and she went and quit shortly thereafter. And never gave me the notes from the course. Granted, there's not much she can do with this course, for her career, it was pretty specific, but still.

And another consultant was put through an expensive course and just quit less than 2 months after. And that course was probably the reason she got hired at her new gig.

But there's no hard feelings. People need to understand that people gotta do what they gotta do for themselves.

I know it seems like a disaster to your career now, but once, long ago, a woman told me that the one thing she regrets is worrying so much when she took her maternity leaves. She said she wished she realized how truly short that period of time was and that she could work for the rest of her life. And I'm seeing that now. The time I took off was so minor, and I've built so much back up in the two years I've been back, and I STILL probably have another 40 years to go.

Hope that helps a bit.

Good luck with your meeting!

I'm sorry :( That sounds so stressful! I can't believe they told you that they werent happy with you quitting after taking your leave! I feel like lots of moms do this- think they want to come back to work after leave, but then decide to stay home. WAH with 2 kids sounds tough- maybe you could hire a babysitter for a few hours a day to come by and play with them while you worked?

I have to go meet with my boss today. I am so anxious I could puke. I hate confrontation and I just hate this whole situation.

Going through the process of deciding to quit made me realize that although I love the work I was doing, I was miserable working there. They offered me a raise to come back, but I don't think that makes up for the rest of the crap I've had to deal with there.

I can't just quit out right because they let me know they were not happy with me quitting after using the sick leave fund. I know they do to have any legal basis to ask me to repay them, but I feel like I have to go back to work for a little bit at least. They also let me know I couldn't WAH indefinitely and that they would rehire in January.

So I guess I'm just going to WAH for a few months and then quit/be let go and SAH. I will miss the job (not the office) a lot but I'm not going to look for work right away. It'll be good to be at home with the boys for a while. Things are just so hectic right now with them being close in age that I don't think it makes sense to jump into a new job.

I just feel UGH about this all around. I think work will hate me, yet I have to keep working there. I think trying to WAH will be crazy with two very little ones and I will be miserable for the next few months. I'm mad at myself for railroading my career.

Gahhhh. Sorry for the vent. Just so stressed about it. I don't even know if any of this made sense!
