I'd suggest a van, honestly.

We have a full size SUV (with a good sized third row seat), the Mazda CX9, and while we love it, we wish we'd just gone with the minivan. The RF seats just don't fit well and give us enough room in the front.

@Ms. RV: hey! I just was discussing this with my DH. My 2013 pilot has latch all the way across the backseat so we moved the car seats around today and I have complete ability to go all the way forward and back in the drivers seat! It's so nice lol. The pilot has 4 latch locations the 3 middle seats and behind the passenger seat in the 3rd row.

@anbanan15: thanks for the comment about the seat belt I didn't know that and was going to just install one of the seats in the middle and it turns out I do have latch 3 across.

@jetsa: It looks like only the Toyota Sienna offers AWD :bummed: It seems to get good reviews for driving in the snow, though. Not quite a minivan, but lower to ground than an SUV, the Ford Flex also offers AWD and three rows of seats. Ford Flex is currently near the top of our list, mainly because OH prefers Ford to GM or Toyota.

@anbanan15: @travellingbee: Thanks for suggesting the Traverse/Enclave (I think they are essentially the same thing). It figures, it was the second runner up when I bought the Outback. I could have just gave OH my car! Will definitely add those to the list.

@Foodnerd81: @Little Misters Mom: @ChelseaRose: Thanks for giving helping me narrow down the list of what not to look for!

@matador84: @jetsa: Yes, I think a minivan or full size SUV is going to be in our future. There AWD vans, luckily.

@ChelseaRose: I didn't think of posting on car seats for littles... but I will probably be doing that!

I have an '08 Ford Escape. It would also not be a good option for you as it is a smaller SUV. I can only speak to my year though, and I believe the newer models are roomier, but I'm still not sure it would be a good fit for you. We will be 3 across in the fall and the Cybex Anton 2/Q I mentioned earlier was literally the only seat that would fit with our other two seats.

@jetsa: My SUV is the same, but you do not have to install a seat using latch. A properly installed seatbelt install is just as safe and effective as latch. Also there are weight limits to latch so regardless of where your seat is installed you will have to eventually switch to a belt install.

@matador84: good recommendation. I forgot they redesigned the pilots mine is a 2014.

For all those suggesting minivans is there an AWD/4WD one? I'd much prefer one (my pre-mom self is cringing) but I have to have AWD/4WD for my driveway

@anbanan15: most suv's don't allow this setup with latch though. I only have latch for 2 seats in the 2nd row of the pilot.

I think you'll have to venture into minivan territory. We have a 2013 outback, a ff 2 year old and a rf 1 year old. There is NO room when my husband is driving (who is also 6 ft 4). Maybe see if the new redesigned pilots have more room?

In terms of what I would not recommend: Toyota Highlander, Toyota Tacoma (4 door), and also the Lexus mentioned above. In terms of vans, I believe the Honda Odessey is rated better for car seats than the Toyota. It sounds like you will need a full size SUV like a Tahoe or a van. Have you tried posting in the car seats for the littles group on FB? They are great at making these kinds of recommendations.

We have a Buick Enclave with captains chairs in the back that would easily fit 2 RF. DH is 6 feet but with long legs and he keeps his seat pretty much all the way back and it fits no problem.

Seconded that two won't fit in a Lexus Rx350. It sounds like a minivan checks all your boxes. My sister has a Toyota Sienna and it easily fits two rear facing with room to spare. If you think you might have your sister's kid in there as well, it would even fit 3 carseats. Plus it has 4wd and the automatic door feature might help with DH's disability. I know lots of people are resistant to minivans in general, but it's actually really nice.

I can help you narrow it down more at least- Lexus rx350 will be too tight for you. We have the rf seat behind the passenger seat and it's fine for me, at 5'7", but starts to feel smug after a long car ride. We will turn it to ff and put c behind the driver when the new baby gets here and the infant seat will go behind the passenger.

My sisters Audi Q5 is even smaller in the back seat, definitely could not have a 6+ foot tall driver and rf seat. We test drove Acura RDX and MDX and I don't think either of them would work either.

If you can set it up like @anbanan15: says with one seat in the center you may have a little more wiggle room.

My friend really loves her Chevy Traverse. She is fairly tall and her husband is tall (not as tall as yours but over 6'). They fit 3 across, all rear facing in the middle row.

No matter what car you have, I personally would seat one in the middle and one behind the passenger instead of one on either side on the outboard seats. If they are both RF the youngest goes in the middle. If they are in two different seating configurations (RF, FF) the least protected would go in the middle.

Also if you are looking at car seats will you being going with an infant seat at all or straight for a convertible? If you have the budget for it check out the Cybex Aton series (we just got the Q). These seats are super compact both in length and width and are about 4" shorter than most other infant seats. Might be an option to help ensure there will be no touching of the infant seat with the driver/passenger seat.

I'd say not a Honda Pilot. I love it for a 4wd SUV but it doesn't have enough room for the car seats. I have a FF toddler behind the passenger side and a RF infant bucket seat behind the driver seat and neither seat can be adjusted all the way back :(

We're in the market for a vehicle. Our first LO is due in August, and we're planning to start trying for #2 the next summer. Even if we don't get #2 so close to #1, we'll likely often have both our LO plus one of my sis' LOs in our car because they are going to be very close in age. So the ability to have two RF seats is a requirement. OH is 6'4", so the driver seat would likely be nearly the whole way back in any vehicle (hence why two RF is a challenge). It also needs to have 4WD or AWD for the hilly snow covered roads. Really, really should be an SUV, van, or truck-- OH has a minor disability that makes it difficult to get in and out of cars. I have a newer Subaru Outback, and some days he struggles with that even though it is higher than most cars. I feel like we have to be the pickiest car shoppers ever! Being able to tow at least 3500lbs wouldn't be so bad either

Any recommendations?
