i just scheduled a ped dentist appt for DD at 18 months. i'm interested in this as DD doesn't like her teeth brushed and she has most of her teeth except a couple canines and her 2 year molars.

my LO has some tartar build up too, and I brush well and religiously. so I don't think it's anything you may have done..some kids may just be predisposed.

@SugarplumsMom: This is the brand we have, not the same design. Just a colgate kids electronic brush with extra soft brushes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002DGCRNC?cache=b733a28eeb44210276c958a4417215a2&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&qid=1401401179&sr=8-4#ref=mp_s_a_1_4

We use foaming toothpaste, his favorite Elmo toothbrush and sing the lame raffi song about brushing teeth.

@Sammyfab: I'm definitely going to try an electric toothbrush. Hopefully I'll get a similar reaction. Even if she just hates it a little less, it'll be better than now. Thanks for giving me hope!

My son was really good with brushing his teeth for about 10 months and he just started hating it all of a sudden. We started using an electric toothbrush with him - just an adult one with a soft head and a soft spinning option. He loves it!! And we feel better about how well his teeth are getting cleaned because even if he's just holding it in his mouth the bristles are still moving, right?

@SugarplumsMom: We use some floss sticks and it was a real struggle at first but she doesn't mind as much anymore.

@kiddosc: She's 23 months old today. Can you link the spin brush you use? I'm going to see if I can find it here.

@autumnlove: Wow. She lets you floss her?! I am so impressed!

We use a regular toddler brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and we floss her teeth at night.

How old is your LO? There are all kinds of toothbrush options. There are ones designed to fit on your finger so that you can really get into her mouth, or just regular small soft bristled toothbrushes, they also make kids spin brushes with small heads and softer bristles if your LO is a little older.

E hated having me brush his teeth with a fiery passion, but it's important. Our nephew had to get several cavities filled in his baby teeth. E is two, but we just recently to one of the spin brushes and now he cries when I tell him we have to STOP brushing his teeth.

I discovered tartar build up on DD's front teeth. We feel soooo bad  We haven't been as diligent as we need to be. We've let her brush her teeth with us doing a little brushing thinking it would be fine. Well, it's not.

Now, we've vowed to prioritize properly brushing her teeth, even though she absolutely hates it. DH basically has to hold her down each and every time. It kills us, but it needs to be done.

Does anyone have any tips? Do you use an electric toothbrush? Should I get a special kid version? Is a normal adult electric toothbrush too strong? Are there super soft bristles attachments available? Is there anything else I can do?
