They gave me a booster when I took DS for his first shots and said I didn't have to get it again for 10 years. DH got a booster (my practice basically makes all dads get it), MIL has to have it for her work, but I don't think my mom or dad or FIL got boosters. A few years ago measles was making it's rounds where I live so maybe that's why I had heard about it. I ended up getting boosters for everything for work (with kids) about two years before getting pregnant, which is good. Of the handful of pregnant people I have known to have babies in the last 6 years, including me, none of us have had the shot mentioned or received it so neither did any of the people around us unless it was on the 10 year schedule and they were due. I'm in Canada. It's a different kind of antibody and doesn't form the same permanent/long term memory, so the shot for 2 or 4 years ago won't help the new baby.</p> <p>I don't know how long the "every pregnancy" rule has been around but I know the 10 yr tetanus booster has been around for decades.</p> <p>ETA I got pregnant 4 months after my 10yr booster, and had to get it again, less than a year later, during my 3rd trimester to protect my son.
