Thanks for all of the feedback, ladies! Sounds like it's not a biggie if I get it now or after birth (annoyance-wise). I think I might try to get it now so a little bit passes to the baby before his/her first 2-month shots.

I got it at the hospital and wasn't sore at all. I think I was still taking some motrin for cramping so that might have helped too.

I'm surprised your OB wouldn't administer it - all the information I received from my doctor made it sound like something you SHOULD do before the baby is born if you aren't up to date. That way the baby is born with a little bit of an immunity to it.

My TDAP was up to date, so I didn't need to get it. DH had to get a booster and so did my dad (we asked the soon-to-be grandparents to all get the shot too, since we see them a lot).

I got mine in the hospital and trust me, your won't be concerned about a sore arm! I'm usually bad for a few days with shots, but it was fine before I was even home.

I had it at the hospital and my arm was fine. They did warn me about that I'm usually fine after shots.

@cvbee: it's a vaccine that prevents diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis

Does anyone know why they wouldn't give it late in pregnancy? My OB had no problem with it...

I just got the TDAP 2 weeks ago (I'm 37 weeks now) since whooping cough is going around and my OBGYN said it would give the baby some immunity as well. It hurt so it's not something I want to have after giving birth! But DH got it and said it didn't hurt at all (ugh like I'm a big baby?!)

I got the TDAP at my pre-conception appointment in January, so I'm not sure about the whole pregnancy situation and vaccines.

However, the vaccine wasn't a big deal. I don't recall being sore/bothered by it at all afterwards.

Did any of you moms or moms-to-be get the TDAP while you were pregnant? A girlfriend of mine got it at the hospital after delivery (I think that's typical), but she said her arm was so sore for the next few days and wished she had done it sooner. Her sister was given the OK by her OB to get it done during the 3rd trimester.

My OB seemed to prefer for me to have it at the hospital, but I read up, and the Mayo Clinic, ACIP, and CDC both are OK with having it giving during late pregnancy. My OB seems to think that I'll have a hard time finding a place that will administer it to a pregnant woman (she doesn't do vaccines in her office).

Any experiences/tips? I know it won't be the end of the world if I get it done at the hospital, but I'm thinking getting it beforehand is one less pain/sore/annoyance I can do without once the baby is here.
