My daycare doesn't do a week, I think because the director doesn't want to "impose" on the parents? But I love some of these ideas that aren't very expensive! @Miss Ariel: love the give a hug, flower day idea!

@Alba4: the lunch in is a great idea. I think the director already does this for them. But again, I think it would be more appreciated from the parents! I'm just not sure how to organize this?? Our daycare doesn't have room moms or anything like that. There's probably 80ish kids so assume at least 70 families because there are sibling overlaps. I have no idea how I would even coordinate anything like that??? But I could ask if the director could handle the collection of funds and order from their favorite place? Or maybe do breakfast and keep snacks at the break room instead?

Teachers I work with all love food. Coffee and bagels in the morning, some kind of sweet treat in the afternoon. It seems to be an easy way to make people happy!

Our has a teacher appreciation week. There's themes for each day. Small things like bring a flower, even one from your garden or give your teacher a hug. Then at the end of the week there's a lunch where I thing they give out raffle prizes. They ask parents to donate the prizes or money, plus they want volunteers to watch kids nap so that the teachers are able to get away and eat.

Our school's PTA hosts a homemade potluck for the teachers. It is AWESOME! Beautiful salads, sushi, homemade ribs, lots of interesting sides, grilled chicken, steak, veggie options, and then a big dessert buffet. The parents really do a beautiful job.

Maybe you can organize a collection of $ from the parents and order in a lunch for the teachers?

Our center actually has Teacher Appreciation Week and they "suggest" things to give each day. It feels a little too pressured for me because it can end up being pretty costly. But, the school does send us home with a bunch of questions answered by the teachers about what their favorite things are (ie: food, candy, flower, season, store, hometown, etc), so I tried to make it more unique

Our daycare does a teacher appreciation week, and the teachers get something each day that week. I think its great.

I do not want them to make it a bigger deal, and make me feel obligated to participate. It is a bit stressful for me to remember gifts for holidays, when my LO moves up to the next room, etc., I don't want to add another "day" to that list.

ETA: We've given something (even if it is small) every time LO moved up, christmas, valentine's day, the teacher's kids' birthdays. while I am happy to do it on my own terms, it would stress me a little if they actually made it a particular day a big deal, making me feel obligated. I think part of the reason why I'm more mindful and try to do something for them when I can is actually because they don't make any of it a big deal, and they take care of LO well without that expectation.

@Mamaof2: that is a GREAT idea! No pressure and free!

@Pumpkin Pie: yup! I think there's a difference between their employer showing appreciation versus the parent of the children they care for showing appreciation. I think there are ways to show this without costing the parents too much, if any, money or time. @mamaof2 made a great suggestion above! ^

Would rather as little "required" activities and nothing that costs money. That's just my preference!

We do what we can if/when we remember. I'm generally not a fan of making people feel like they have to do something. If the center does a lot for the teachers, I'm not sure why it needs to be a bigger deal. Sounds like you just want more parents to participate?

@regberadaisy: The ones thing ours does that is free (so no excuse for parents not to do) is leave out sticky notes and have the parents or kids write a note of thanks and they fill the hallway wall with it - so much love right there

I made a suggestion to the director that maybe they should make a bigger deal at daycare about Teacher Appreciation Day. I do something on the day of, but I'm not sure if many other parents know this day exists?

The center itself does a lot for the teachers but I'm sure the teachers will love it if they got more love & appreciation from parents.

What does your center do for Teacher Appreciation Day/week? Do you feel obligated to participate? Do you think it's too much? What do you wished they did/n't?

The director has asked me for some ideas and I/we don't want to suggest something too crazy. Or make the parents feel obligated to participate?

Hope this makes sense!
