@FaithFertility: Aww yay! Taking off the whole time would be SO nice, unfortunately I will have to go back for a variety of reasons. I plan to go back the first week of April too, I think anyone can handle 6-7 weeks before having another 8 weeks with the baby, right?!

I hope to teach only seniors next year and they get out two weeks before underclassmen!

In my formal maternity leave request letter, I gave an estimated return date based on my due date, but also put in a statement that it's subject to change based on actual day of birth.

I am taking every second I can, do if I deliver late I will also be returning later.

I would tell them the amount of weeks you plan to take. For example, I will use all of my 12 weeks FMLA. Hopefully this one is born right after Christmas Break starts so I don't actually start FMLA until January (and get paid for the break!) but if he/she comes early, I will just take what I can.

You don't want to say you'll come back and then go late! Hopefully they'll understand....(and hopefully mine will too, I'll be out during the most intense time for state exam prep!).

Teacher bees, if your baby was born during the school year or you would be returning from leave during the school year, did you give your principal a specific start back date before hand, or did you say x weeks from baby's birth?

With DS, he was due in Nov, and I told them I'd be back for the first day of second semester in Jan (he was about 9 weeks when it was all said and done).

This time, I am due early August, right before meetings start. I pray that I'm not late like I was with DS, but I had considered saying I'll come back for the start of 2nd quarter, but I'd really rather just have a set number of weeks, rather than losing time if he's late (if he's early, I think I'd do the quarter thing).

Thoughts?
