I teach fourth grade and have had the toppers on hand for students for years. Especially useful for second semester and my eraser-holics. When the kids have a bare pencil, I slip one on the back of their pencil without a word and they look at me like they won a million dollars. I've never had a problem with kids using them inappropriately. Rulers, that's a different story.

I agree with previous posters - the pencil topper ones either get shredded or tossed across the room. The big ones will be much appreciated!

That's so thoughtful of you. I LOVED my elementary school teachers and hope DD has great friendships with her teachers as well.

I had to ban the toppers from one of my classes because they got thrown around a lot. And stolen. The big ones are way less enticing (and therefore my preference).

I've taught K, 1st & 2nd, and like @Boopers: I preferred kids to cross out. BUT having some erasers in the room can be very helpful and I would always have to buy them myself, so I think the teacher will be very grateful!

I teach 1st grade and in writing I teach students to cross through mistakes so they can see their mistake and fix it right above. Sometimes with erasers they spend more time erasing their work than actually working. I still keep erasers in the room, but I prefer that students cross through their work.

I also prefer the stand alone pink erasers like the white ones you posted. I cut them in half and we get more use out of them that way! That's very kind of you to provide extra supplies. By this time of year rations are low! Lol

i think the bigger ones because the toppers always wore out and you will end up with the same problem.

oriental trading has some fun large erasers. They do a pretty good job erasing

I clearly remember erasers being a most magical thing. My mom never bought them for us, though. We had to use the stupid eraser that never works at the top of the pencil. :silly:

I'm pretty sure the teacher is going to love you forever.

@Mamaof2: If you were a parent in my class, I'd love you forever for buying erasers. I'd totally recommend the bigger ones, even in fifth grade! The topper erasers get all floppy and can be hard to use for non-as-dexterous little hands.

@Mamaof2: Yah the choking hazard part may not be a huge deal at that age. My son's kindergarten class definitely uses the eraser plugs! I did see some kids sucking on them though during class. And for whatever reason, it didn't seem to work that well when we tried to use it!

Oh yah, kids love erasers! I think sometimes my kid makes mistakes on purpose just so he can erase them haha!

@mrbee: Didn't think about choking since I cant imagine a 5-6 yr old putting them in their mouth - just thought they might be easier to pop on a pencil when that eraser is done.

But the bigger ones might be nice for smaller hands!

@Mamaof2: The bigger ones are probably better, since smaller ones can be a choking hazard! Plus the smaller ones wear out faster.

If you can get a lot of erasers though, that might be better than giving a few. In my son's class, the kids are always clamoring for the few erasers and it can create drama (and tears).

I met with DS's K teacher this morning and when showing me his work she told me to excuse the crossed out words - she tells the kids to do this because she can never find an eraser -

So.... I though to be funny/helpful I would order a bunch of erasers for her - which kind would be better for K kids?
