I told my coworkers and principal at 13 or 14 weeks. I work with elementary kids, and my classroom is cold so I've been wearing lots of sweaters and chunky cardigans, so the kids didn't figure out. Finally, maybe around 18-20 weeks, one of my kids asked me, "Do you have a baby?" and I just told them that I was pregnant because I was so excited about it!

I teach 11th grade. My students figured it out when I was only 10 weeks or so! They never asked me if I was pregnant, just when I wanted kids, etc. I also heard from other teachers that students were asking if I was pregnant. I told my students at 13 weeks, my co-workers knew at 12 weeks (except 1 co-worker who figured it out at 9 weeks or so because I was really sick).

@simplyfelicity: that helps :) with my first lo I was due in December and had some very unhappy parents. I teach special ed so I'm very involved in their day to day. This time around I am due in May so I'm hoping it's not as big of a deal. :) I just read through your other comments .... My students are always quick to let me know when I need to color my hair!! Especially my boys. I was kind of shocked they didn't ask if I was gaining weight or something ;)

I teach middle school. I only had one student figure it out before I told them at 19 weeks! Not because I wasn't showing ... I just chose clothes very strategically! I didn't mind them knowing so much as I was dreading some of their parents finding out!

When I told them at 11 weeks. I had experienced a big loss before and I knew they would all be excited. It was on April Fool's day and they liked that. I teach 6th grade. Some of them said they had wondered because I was looking tired.

School let out for summer when I was 9 weeks pregnant (and not showing). We started back at 18 weeks and I read my students the book, "Our Teacher's Having a Baby," by Eve Bunting and at the end of the story told them that their teacher was having a baby, too!

@simplyfelicity: 7th graders are the best!!! I didn't want to do an announcement. One day at lunch a bold table of girls called me over and asked if I had anything to tell them. I jokingly pretended to not know what they were talking about before I admitted it. They did want to know the sex and they were all about giving name suggestions, but other than that their interest faded quickly.

My students didn't start asking until I was 20-something weeks. I have 6,7, and 8th grade. I still had some kids asking the week we let out for summer when I was 36 weeks and gigantic. Guess they still weren't sure?

I work as a reading specialist in a school, but don't see the same set of kids everyday. When I was pregnant, I heard one kid say to another in the hall, "Mrs. G is getting fat." The other responded with "She's having a baby, duh."

I'm not a teacher but I did run adult groups, so I thought I'd chime in. I'm pretty thin, but I managed to hide it until about 17 weeks or so I thought. The day I told them the room was awkwardly silent until one of my clients said, "yeah we know. It's been obvious for weeks!"

@simplyfelicity: I taught 7th grade for the past 6 years and LOVED it and the age group (planning to get back to it ASAP!). Now I run a nonprofit program within a middle school so I still see the kids every day. None of them have said anything yet, but I am betting by the end of January they'll have my number. Plus your comment about getting your hair dyed made me LOL--I still remember the reaction the first time I wore glasses instead of contacts.

I teach pre-k, so my kids never really caught on last time until I said something, but I was 16 weeks when school let out for Summer. Their parents definitely noticed, though.

I'm curious this time because I'm showing a lot quicker. I go back Monday and I'll be 9 weeks. Hoping I can hide it for another month or so. 5 year olds can be seriously honest about these things! I totally wouldn't be surprised if one of them just called me fat.

I taught high school. I told the nurse and two coworkers by 6 weeks because I was so sick. I told my principal after the first ultrasound simply because I didn't want him to hear by word of mouth if it did get out. After that I told a few coworkers once I reached the second tri. The kids were curious and hinted at their suspicions but I waited until they flat out asked before discussing it in each class. It never came out in one class until about 16 weeks. I definitely had a little bump by then.

My first graders never got suspicious or said anything until I told them after my anatomy scan at 19 weeks. My team decorated my room and when the kids came in they slowly figured it out. They are really excited still and the girls are really protective of the bump ha!

Just curious about other teachers' experience with students asking if you were pregnant. Did you hide it for a while, just tell your class to get it over with, or say nothing at all? I going back to work at nearly 15 weeks and now have a slight bump, can't figure out if I want to embrace it or hide it, especially since my next ultrasound will be the Friday we get back and haven't seen babe since 9 weeks.
Anyway, what was your experience with your students figuring out you were pregnant?
