@DesertDreams88: good point about having him stay accustomed to the bottle during the summer. I didn't think about that. Thanks!

I try to pump once a day, freeze that, and my DH gives LO a bottle of frozen milk each day. That way we cycle through the stash and LO stays accustomed to the bottle.

The way that it works out for me is we put LO to bed at 7pm, I pump around 9pm, and when LO wakes at 6 am, DH does that bottle feeding and I sleep in until LOs first nap around 8 or 9. I know this makes it seem like I sleep 10p-9a, but I still do a couple feeds midnight-6am :(

I went back to school in June and my supply did fine with pumping, no change at all My son was 5 months old. When I go back in September he will be 9 months and I think I will just pump once maybe twice a day. I'm thinking it won't affect my supply. ..? To keep a freezer stash, this summer I think I will pump every other morning or so. He doesn't like taking the bottle but we have to get him on it!

I did this with my son.. He was right at 8.5 months when I was done with school. I didn't pump at all over the summer, just nurses on demand. When I went back to work in the fall, I started pumping again with no change to my supply. I did only pump for another month or two because then he turned one. I never had a huge freezer stash, but I'm guessing you can just start using the oldest frozen bags in the fall; they should stay "good" for 6 months.

If it were me I would just BF during the day, but then do a pumping session right after you last feed her and then one more before you go to bed.

I don't think your supply will drop especially if you will be nursing all summer. Plus another thing to consider is that she might be taking more solids and drinking less while you are away.
I totally get the paranoia though.

No change over the summer. I wanted to wean but she didn't so on we went. She was a year and a half after summer. (I stayed home for six months and started after the summer so I don't count that summer.) My supply kept up with demand even when I went back to school.

@katsupgirl: My daughter will be 8 and 1/2 months when I go back to work. I have a sizeable freezer stash, but I am also worried about cycling through it before it expires (since she will hardly be going through any over the summer). I want to pump/breastfeed for as long as she's interested, and I am paranoid about making a wrong choice now that jeopardizes that in the long term.

How old will your LO be when school starts back? I'm pregnant now but was just thinking about this for next year.

I figured I would try to pump while on summer break (once a day nothing crazy ) to build up a stash for when I went back.

I pumped for a crazy long time with my first so I'm game to go just as long the second time.

If you pumped during the school year and intended to pump again the following year, what did you do during the summer? I have a good supply, and pump more than LO eats when I am at work, so I worry that if I take the summer off from pumping entirely, my supply will dwindle. Then I could be in a bind when working longer hours in the fall. Did you drop pumping entirely over summer break? Pump occasionally? How did it work out for you?
