We're doing about 20-30 minute chunks of time at this point. Hubs is normally the athletic one in the relationship, so it's hard for him having to be taught by me. Anything else he doesn't mind me being more proficient, but sporty stuff has always been his thing.

I learned as an adult too. It was pretty frustrating at first because I'm a difficult student :) DH encouraged me to find my balance first without pedaling like the previous poster mentioned. It then turned into to gliding down a slightly downhill (really slightly) street... Then pedaling. The first day sucked. Then I slept on it and was better the next time. On that day after 4 hours of practice, practice, practice (DH patiently watching and coaching), I was riding on my own!!

This is hard! And frustrating! Hubs has always been Mr. Athletic, and it's difficult for him to be not succeeding at this. We tried the "scooting" around with his feet not on the peddles, but he's so tall that didn't work. I guess we'll try again tomorrow or Thursday night.

Thanks all. We're going to try again later today. I'm hoping Hubs picks up of this because it'll be fun to ride with him.

I learned as an adult, too! Gosh, I forgot how they taught me but I actually got an instructor! DH and I always get into arguments when he is trying to teach me things because he can't explain anything to save his life. Good luck with this!

I learned to ride a bike as an adult as well. My DH taught me when we first started dating. Ever see those toddler bikes called "like a bike"? It's basically a bike with no pedals and you scoot around like a scooter. I used that technique to get a feel for balancing on a bike. Once I got comfortable doing that, I then practiced putting my feet on the pedals.

I'm trying to teach my hubs how to ride a bike, He road a few times as a kid, but never beyond the training wheels stage. We've tried me holding the bike while he rides, or even holding the front (facing him) to help him balance.

Any words of advice?
