I'll be going to DR at 30ish weeks. We went there on our baby moon last time and talked to my health insurance beforehand and found that if I needed a doctor or hospital while there, they would cover it as long as I got official transcriptions of all the billing from Spanish to English.

I know many airlines have their own restrictions, and may require a doctor's note in the 3rd trimester. My doc had said she'd okay flying within the country until 36w, and outside the country until 32w. When I flew to Europe in the fall, I did have the flight attendent at the desk ask how far along I was. She just made a note of it in the flight registry. I may have also gotten special perks on the flight back! One flight attendent kept coming by to ask how "momma" was doing and to bring me extra snacks and drinks! I hadn't been feeling good that morning, so it was really appreciated!

I live in England so I'm obviously a huge fan of the country :-) I also don't think it's too late in your pregnancy to travel but it depends what you're comfortable with. I flew at 37 weeks on a 4.5 hr flight (with an 18 month old in tow!) and was perfectly comfortable, but it depends on how your pregnancy is going. Other options could be somewhere along the gulf coast of Florida? Should be warm enough to sit on the beach by then I would think....

I would probably do it if you don't think you'd mind the flight (not sure how long it would be for you) and stick to low-key activities. Or maybe Florida, Southern California, or Hawaii if you want to stay in the States and have a relaxing beach trip instead?

@birdofafeather: cruise lines have a rule that you can't cruise past 24 weeks. I think they don't want to risk anyone going into labor onboard.

Is it recommended not to cruise at a certain point? 28 weeks sounds like a perfect cruising time!

Something to consider: how would your insurance cover you if something did happen while you were in Europe (or elsewhere)? You would likely have good healthcare in a European country, but I would look into insurance coverage.

I went to Europe for a babymoon between 20-22 weeks. I still had morning sickness some days, as well as horrible food sensitives, and wish we'd gone a few weeks later. I didn't have any problems with the long flights (the Istanbul to Toronto flight was around 14 hrs), and my doctor said just to get up and walk around frequently, which I normally do for long flights. I also don't consider 28 weeks to be too late, as long as you've had a healthy pregnancy and no complications.

I'd have no issue being in Europe but getting there might give me pause -- I flew at 21/22 weeks and was fine, but they were short flights. I think I'd have been pretty uncomfortable with a long flight past 25 weeks or so.

I also don't consider that very late, it's barely the third trimester :)

I was considered high risk last time and still considered traveling at 34 or 35 weeks this time.

So I'd go to England or Scotland one last time before baby arrives.

I don't consider 28 weeks very late; I was in Mexico at 27 weeks last time and i was just in Florida at 30 weeks and was perfectly fine and comfortable.

I'm not sure whether I would travel overseas at that point. If your uncomfortable though and would be stressed maybe stick to the U.S. A vacation should be enjoyable! What about Key West? I've heard the beaches are great and you wouldn't be leaving the country.

I had some risks through out my pregnancy, so given that I would not have felt comfortable leaving the United States. I would probably pick somewhere beachy in the US. Lots of places will be great weather in May: Florida, Hilton Head Island, San Diego, etc.

DH and I had a cruise planned for next week, but we had to cancel. We'll be able to do something in May, but I'll be around 28 weeks by then, so too far along for a cruise. DH suggested we go back to England or Scotland, since we love it there. But I'm not sure about going so far. I'm going to ask my midwives, but even if they say it's safe, I'm uncertain, and leaning towards not risking it. He also suggested Jamaica, but I'm even less willing to go somewhere with poor healthcare. Would you consider going to Europe that late? Any recommendations for better ideas? He also suggested San Francisco, but that's a lot of walking. I'd prefer somewhere mostly relaxing, like a cruise would have been, and fairly nice.
