@highwire: we have the same exact issues and basically have to use our phones only (on 4g, not wifi) to get a show to run the whole way through. It's definitely the bandwidth for us, so if you try @birdofafeather suggestion, that should help! Hope you get it figured out! :)

check your speeds via speedtest.net. we have 15MB service and have no issues streaming multiple things. we have a Roku (same idea as apple tv) and i can do things on my ipad or laptop while watching.

we did just have to have someone come in and make sure our wires were good because all of a sudden we couldn't upload anything! download was working fine, but upload sucked. if your speeds are matching what you're supposed to have, i don't know what else to tell ya!

Not sure if you're still suffering with this problem.
We also have AT&T Uverse and had similar issues, but we upgraded to the second tier internet ( I think extra $5/month) This stopped all issues and can watch netflix via Roku while we're both on our tablets or laptops.

I would double check and make sure your internet is password protected so that noone is stealing your bandwith.

So I don't know the answer to this but I'm at my in-laws puppy sitting and they have an appleTV. DH and I both noticed that the remote for the apple TV keeps messing with our macbooks! We can't choose a new show without weird volume effects and random apps opening! Arg!

so yeah, not the answer but thought I'd join you in the two mac products don't make a right head scratcher...

Not sure if anyone can help, but I thought I would put it out there!

We have AT&T Uverse internet, and stream our Netflix via an AppleTV console.

Lately, anytime I am trying to use the laptop and Apple TV(for Netflix) at the same time, both seem to endlessly buffer and the signal goes in and out constantly. It is so annoying! I can basically only use one at a time: either my laptop or the Netflix/AppleTV.

Do we need a more powerful internet connection or something? I can't imagine what we have isn't powerful enough to allow us to run two pieces of technology on the wifi at the same time, but maybe that uses a lot of "bandwith" or whatever the right word is for that. I'm obviously no expert.

I did turn off the wifi on my phone, so maybe that will help things a little so there isn't an additional device on the wifi....

Anyway, anyone know anything about this or how to make it better?
