It's actually easier for me to nurse top breast while side lying. I have small breasts and joke they are almost in my armpits... So bottom boob is pretty much in the bed unless I lean back a little and that's not super comfy.

I only nurse on one side per feeding, so I usually just opt to nurse lying down when I'm due to nurse from that breast. I have fed LO from the top boob, but it's not as comfy, and I couldn't doze that way.

I could never get the top-breast lean to work, either

I flip him from side to side. Kinda drag him over my body. My bed is against a wall. I've tried leaning so he could get the top boob but it's not comfortable for me. And for me side lying nursing is all about getting him latched on asap so I can get back to sleep!

We frequently did top and bottom breast too. Now she kind of prefers sitting next to me, facing me and leaning over for the side closest to her, then top boob when I am on my side. She frequently does that sitting up too. Strange but she prefers it and it makes no difference to me.

I just flip her into the middle of the bed. I block feed, so I feed several times on one side before switching to the other. I'll often feed most of the evening on my right side so that my left side is ready for overnight. Then I can flip her over if I need to.

I would just angle my body so that the baby can latch onto the top breast after being done with the bottom. I have small boobs and it still works.

I only nursed like this when he was much younger and slept in our room-although I used to go lay down on the couch to feed him. I can't remember when he got old enough to switch, but he's 8 months and I only feed him in cross carry and only one side at a time. It's an easy hold to transfer him back to the crib without jostling him excessively

I could only nurse this way when lo was older, and I just angle my body so she has access to whichever breast in nursing from. Sometimes it's not the most comfortable but at least my head is down, lol

I often accidentally fell asleep while feeding dd this way. I was against co-sleeping, as my husband is a smoker, and that is a risk factor. However he was often away for work so it wasn't usually a huge issue. To keep her from falling out of bed I laid across the middle of the bed using the headboard as my security.

We have a huge bed and DH is waaay over on one side. I put DD in the middle of the remains space and start on one side and then hop over her and finish on the other!

Sometimes I'll move around him but if I'm feeling lazy I'll just angle my body so my "top" breast is easy for him to latch onto. So he's laying more on his back then his side and I'm angled more onto my stomach. I have large breasts so I'm not sure if it would work with a smaller chest. I also have to be careful not to squish him with these monsters 😉

If my husband was there, I would start on the outside (so he was on the edge) and then switch to the inside and let him fall asleep there.

If my husband was sleeping somewhere else, then I would leave the baby in the middle of the bed and put a pillow on his far side as insurance. To switch sides I would stay under the covers and just scoot over him to the other side.

I heard that one mom would switch orientations so her head was by her husband's feet (to keep the baby away from the edge). I think we might wind up getting kicked given my husband's sleep pattern. Plus it's sort of gross. And my cat usually sleeps on my feet. So I don't think that would work for me, but maybe it would work for you.

How do you handle feeding on both sides while side-lying nursing?

I never really tried this position with LO1. LO2 sleeps in her own crib, but I occasionally bring her into bed with me. When she was younger--and my DH often slept in the guest room and I had the full bed--I would pick her up and move her from side to side or just get out of bed and move to the other side of the bed. Which definitely broke the coziness of nursing in bed :bummed: She's 11 months now, and I just feed her from one side when we do it. (I'm not concerned about supply issues at this point and it seems to be enough milk to get her back to sleep for another few hours at her 5AM wake-up.)

I'm not sure I'll do anything different, but it's just occurred to me that there might be a better way to go about it!
