The other night DH called me over to our kitchen window. We're on the 3rd floor and overlook a gated parking lot at the back of our development of mixed townhouses and flats. It was about midnight and there were 3 people huddled up against the fence of one of the townhouses' backyards. We watched them for awhile and decided that they were probably drunk teenagers.
We still called the cops because they shouldn't have been there. We were safe because it would be really hard to get into our flat, but there was a chance they were just hanging out waiting for people to fall asleep before breaking in to one of the townhouses. The police told my husband that since they weren't really doing anything there wasn't anything the cops could do.... um... loitering? public intoxication? possibly trespassing? (I'm not sure if the parking lot is technically private property). They were gone in the morning and we haven't heard news of any problems, but still weird!

Dh is the one to scare teenagers away. He loves being a grumpy old man.

I would've totally done the same as you! When my son was 3 months old, there was a 4th of July party a few houses down and they were SO loud. I went outside in my robe (at 2am) and started yelling at them. My other neighbor also came outside with her husband and all 3 of us threatened to call the cops. Kids need to learn to be respectful of others and these teenagers acted like they owned the block! UGH.

Our neighbors like to show off their sound system in their car at all hours of the night. We'll hear the "boom boooooom booooom" all the time. I've asked them to keep it down if it's after 10 but I've had to give up because they don't seem to care.

I've never had a problem with teenagers since there are so few of them in NYC, but I have called the cops on neighbors. My upstairs neighbor two apartments ago was college aged and a total absolute nightmare. He was always throwing parties and super loud, but we finally called the cops on him one Sunday when his party was still raging at midnight. He moved out shortly after that thank goodness.

Now I live on the interior of a courtyard which is great since I don't face the street. I hear my neighbors having parties, but it's not loud enough to keep me awake adn it's only on the weekends.

I get super defensive/territorial about stuff like that. Especially after watching two teenage kids take a baseball bat to the property across from us and next door. In the middle of the afternoon. On a Sunday. While I stood there with my cell phone blatantly watching them.

We live in a small rural town with almost zero crime, for goodness' sake!

If someone were loitering on our property after dark, I would assume they were an idiot until proven otherwise. And treat them appropriately.

Our neighborhood is full of kids of all ages. Our next door neighbors have kids in high school and college, and the family across the street had kids in high school.

During the summer, they party, party party. It's loud and annoying, and disrupts my sleep.

I'm willing to bet it will wake up Baby Jump, too. I try to remember what it's like to be 19, but... don't mess with my kids sleep schedule LOL

We live in a college town and this happens quite often on the weekends. Usually they're walking by and being noisy or our neighbors have decided to rent out their house to parties....annoying but we ignore it. If they were actually hanging out in front of the house the dogs would start barking so that usually takes care of anyone just hanging out.

Most of the kids in our neighborhood are still quite young so we haven't had to deal with this. But if we did I would likely send hubs out first, he's a big and intimidating guy. If that didn't work, or if he wasn't home, I would call the police and make a noise complaint.

We have a lot teens/pre-teens in our neighborhood, but if they're running around at night, we don't hear them. I can think of one time, though, where a bunch of teens had parked in front of our house and were talking and skateboarding. It wasn't super late - maybe 9? and they weren't super loud, but it was just obnoxious. We just let the dogs bark at the front door for a while and eventually the kids cleared off. :)

so annoying. Our next door neighbor's college-aged son lives at home and does this from time to time. On a warm summer night, DH and I like to sleep with our windows open. Just last month during our heat wave, we had to shut the windows because he was out with his friends, yakking and talking and coughing (my suspicion is doing illegal things) AT MIDNIGHT!!! UGH.

Next time, I'm calling the cops.

About a week ago, we got vandalized for the first time. It was a holiday known for late night drunkenness and a big bonfire. Some teenagers kicked our mailbox (that I DIYed) and the top came off!

I heard a ruckus outside that night (sounded like a moped and a loud noise) and I didn't bother checking - I wish I did! I would have gone outside with a bat! (Only for show! People don't normally call the cops here and just opening the door would have likely made those little thugs crap their pants!) Hmmmph!

There are always teenagers outside our house on weekends and during the summers. They seem pretty harmless... they usually do stupid stuff like lie in the street and share cans of beer. My DH always tells them to go somewhere else or be quiet if they are being too loud.

I just went outside my house and chased off 3 teenagers making tons of noise infront of our house. In hindsight that might have been stupid considering, the time (midnight), me being preggo and that they might have been crazy. Perhaps it was the Mama Bear instinct but they seemed harmless and they were. Thank goodness!

If there were teenagers outside your home late at night that just loitered or caused lots of noise, would you go out there and tell them to go home? or would u leave them be?
