It could be a while. Everyone told me DS was teething just after 3 months as he drooled so much and loved to chew. He didn't get a tooth until just after 6 months. Once you see the white spot you will know the tooth is coming.

He could absolutely be teething and it could take anywhere from weeks to months for the first teeth to cut through. I went through this with my son, too. It's hard when they are so little!!

Some things to try:
Amber necklace/bracelet
Hyland's homeopathic gel and teething tablets
Cold/frozen washcloths
Babywearing (give your arms a break)
Distraction... get out of the house!
Tylenol for nighttime

Hope he is feeling better soon!

Our pedi told us that babies just have an increase of drool at this age. It doesn't mean teething, cause that is what we thought too.

Then drool went away, spit increased even more and then we had a tooth. I didn't even notice the white spot cause I wasn't looking cause she wasn't drooling.

Now she is working on her first top tooth and again no drool, more spit up and huge white spot.

@scg00387: this!

We swore Lo was teething starting at 4/5 months...he didn't get teeth til 9 months. I think most f it was just developmental fussiness.

@Pepper: I don't think there is any way to know if a baby is teething unless/until you see the white spots/lines on their gums. I swore up and down, several times, that LO was getting his top teeth starting back in July.. and it's just now showing the white :) Which isn't to say it might not be hurting before that, there is just no way of knowing!

Another good question!

B has been exhibiting the same behaviors. He also keeps shoving my kuckles in his mouth and gnawing on them. He loves to clamp down on my knuckles so I am guessing he might be starting to teeth as well?

LO is 15 weeks and I swear he's teething. His hands won't leave his mouth. Drool everywhere. He pulls on his bottom gums with his fingers and claws at his face. He also has been insanely fussy and just wants to be held. Sound like teething? How many months can this go on for? If this is a 2-3 month process, how do you make your LO not be miserable for that long?
