I think part of it was he was less interested in nursing. It was not insurmountable. There were a few times I had to pump and give a bottle. My second got teeth earlier, and had no trouble nursing, but he had always been a good nurser. She nurses longer, especially at night, when teething, and when the new teeth come in, her latch changes somewhat - no biting, but just more friction, if that makes sense. Changing nursing positions helps alleviate any soreness from that. She has taken a little nip once or twice, but nothing severe - I don't think she even knew what she was doing. I would say maybe 6-8 months ago we had a little biting spell where over the course of a few weeks he bit me probably 4-5 times. I would just stop nursing him, say don't bite or whatever, and then watch him REALLY closely. They will unlatch prior to biting. If he did that, then I moved his head/mouth away from my boob so he couldn't bite. </p> <p>Now that he's older, he will sometimes give me a smile and act like he might bite or put his teeth down but he thinks it's like a game. If he does that, nursing time is over. Otherwise, biting is pretty infrequent - he really only does it when he's feeling naughty. He is chewing on everything these days but thankfully not on me! I do remember with my DD that she bit me twice and both times I was so shocked that I screamed 'No!' I found that he initially did bite me but the real problem was that his tooth would rub the spot for the following weeks while it was trying to heal, and so it would just keep bleeding and reopening. My kiddo got her first two teeth right at 6 months, and had 13 teeth by the time she fully weaned at 19 months. </p> <p>Her latch was more firm (and later more toothy, if that makes sense) whenever she was teething. She did bite on occasion with teething, but I just firmly told her no and unlatched her whenever she did it. The biting was way worse as a toddler than as an infant.
