@nana87: Heh, we have the same problem. Even more reason to keep the biscuits at daycare and the puffs at home....

@regberadaisy: @spaniellove: Cool! Maybe I'll get some of the biscuits for daycare since that's what they asked for and keep puffs at home for now to help him practice. I'm sure my dog will enjoy the throwing of snacks....

We've given both puffs and the plum biscuits in the pic above. I prefer giving the puffs bc she inevitably drops the cracker onto the floor or feeds it to one of our dogs and it's a waste!

@JennyPenny: No difference. Puffs can be thrown pretty easily and take a different grasp to pick up, though! LO was able to hold the biscuit and eat it on his own right away, whereas he's still struggling with the puffs - and throwing them.

@JennyPenny: puffs help them practice their pincer grip which is eventually necessary for self feeding.

@T.H.O.U.: Hmm... other than size/shape what's the difference? I'm guessing they want the teething biscuits to keep him occupied while the other babies finish their lunches so puffs could probably fulfill the same purpose and I bet he actually needs more practice with little foods than big ones. He has yet to figure out how to get little bites out of his hand and into his mouth :)

They are sort of crackers but they have a texture that melts easily so babies who are starting solids won't be as likely to choke/gag. I give LO Happy Baby teething biscuits and they turned out to be a good quick way to give him some PB or prune puree spread on top.

We tried these plum organics ones and my babies loved it. Organic and much less messy than the other brands.

Short version: Are teething biscuits just cookies? Is there a healthier substitute?

Long version: Today daycare suggested we send some teething biscuits for LO to have after he has finished his puree lunch. They said he still acts hungry after a 4oz jar and this will help him practice self feeding. He's 7 months old and currently toothless. We started with BLW at 5.5 months but introduced purees at 6.5 months because he just seemed so much hungrier than what he could manage to eat himself or my breastmilk supply could provide. He's really good at holding foods and getting them to his mouth and even taking big bites - just hasn't quite mastered chewing and swallowing.

To me teething biscuits seem like cookies which doesn't seem like a healthy option. Is there a healthy non-messy option I can send instead? Or am I wrong and teething biscuits are actually healthy and nutritious?
