Thanks so much all. @anonysquire: from birth wow, that's tough! DH reckons he can see another one that's close to coming through next to it, so that could be it I guess! Although we've only got a very little bit of this one poking through at the mo so maybe more needs to come up for him to get some relief. Fingers crossed it will be soon!!

DS starts teething week(s) before the tooth breaks through. Sleep goes down the crap hole during this time. Once it breaks through, it's better, but it's not all better until a good amount of the tooth is out. Oof.

For the first tooth, it seemed to take three days. But, teeth usually come in pairs, so you might find that recovering from this first one just rolls into the second one. Also, some for some babies the teeth go up a bit, stop, up a bit, go down a bit and so on. So it seems to take forever. I think that's why the discrepancy between some people that say immediately and others.

It hasn't let up over here yet. Started teething at birth, first one poppe at 2 months. Kept teething until now (4 months) and the next is about to pop. Good luck!

Haha I asked the same question last week and most people said immediately but I did not find that to be the case with my lo!! She cut two in a row and is still teething really hard but there's no sign of a third. So I have no real answer, unfortunately! Is it possible the next tooth is coming?

We are usually fine after the tooth breaks- but maybe he's getting another tooth? Or it's possible that there's still some more of the tooth to come through. Hope he (and you) get some relief soon!

My son was an early teether, and once his teeth finally did erupt he would get more. Our first year from 4 months up was consumed with teething.

R is usually fine once the tooth cuts through the gum. Maybe your LO is getting another tooth?

For my LO I think usually after it cuts she is fine. But, that doesn't mean it's the same for all!

Hope your LO is better soon!

...does it take for the tooth to come up / the pain to be over once it has cut through the gum?

DS first tooth cut through his gum on Saturday afternoon. He will not let me in his mouth to look at it, but I can feel a sharp little tooth just slightly poking through. Since then he has been inconsolable at night unless dosed up on calpol, and he is off his solids.

What is everyone's experience of how long it takes for the tooth to be up and the teething to be done (for this tooth anyway!) once it has broken through the gum?
