@hilsy85: yes as I remember ... which was a while ago ... it kind of looked worse and then all the sudden cleared up. We still see bits occasionally (after periods of using inhalers more usually) but they seem to go away on their own now that it’s less entrenched. And it’s just a small patch near his mouth not the whole ring.

I havent seen a teething rash that goes up into the nose like this. Could it food related? DD used to get rashes arouns her mouth and it was because daycare wasn't wiping her mouth properly after meals. We used cerave wash and their moisturizing cream and it cleared up

@bhbee: gotcha thanks. I appreciate the honesty! Just frustrating to see her poor little face looking so bad :( but the metro gel DID work at least? As long as I know there’s an end to it I can deal!

@nana87: oh nice! Glad it cleared up easily :)

@hilsy85: honestly (probably not what you want to hear!) it took about 6 weeks and looked worse before it got better. My pedi warned us about that so at least we knew to keep going. We think my sons inhalers probably are a major contributor to this - some sort of steroid rebound since kids get the mist on their face - so that may have made it harder for us, not sure. Good luck, it was not fun to put on that gel!

@hilsy85: I totally forgot I posted this! We used/use aquaphor, and stopped using wipes to clean her face when she's messy. She has really sensitive skin--her cheeks chap really easily and it was just a bad combination with drool rash.

@bhbee: hi! Just came across this post. Wondering how long it took for the PD to go away with metronidazole? My daughter ha sit and we’ve been using the gel for about a week and I’m not seeing huge improvements yet.

@nana87: that’s exactly what my daughters face looks like. What did you end up
Doing for it?

It doesn’t look exactly like a drool rash but I’m not sure what else it could be

I am totally forgetting what my pedi called it but my son had a rash like this that continued to worsen overall but would come and go. His pacifier probably worsened it but wasn’t the main cause. It was some sort of mild skin infection. We had to treat it with a gel rx he hated (he had just turned 2) but it did work! The hard part was it really took 6 weeks to get better and looked worse before better. But haven’t seen it since.

I wish i could be more specific ... I will google and see if anything rings a bell. Could be something different but maybe worth asking if I think of the name.

ETA ok so I think it was perioral dermatitis and we treated it with metronidazole. Trying to attach a pic - it didn’t look really awful (certainly not every day) but definitely wasn’t going away by the time we treated.

Not sure about the cause, but we are dealing with an acid rash from reflux. Our ped said to use vaseline on her cheeks because it will be more water resistant for the drool compared to regular lotion, and it has helped tremendously.

Lo2 has had this redness/dry skin around her mouth for awhile now— it kind of comes and goes, sometimes looking like this bad and sometimes pretty much clear. Her dr saw her at her 12 month well baby visit and said it was probably just from teething drool plus chapped skin with the cold, but it looks worse now then it did at that appointment...

What do you think? Any similar mouth rashes? She’s a bit congested but otherwise fine
