I started working from home after returning from maternity leave (LO is 5 months old). My mom or MIL watches him 3 days a week here and I go into the office 1 day a week (I WFH with him the other day -- technically my "day off"). I have my own "office" set up in the guest room. But I rarely take a shower or get out of sweats :-) I may start trying to work from a coffee shop occasionally (especially if MIL is watching him here). DH also works from home sometimes so it can get really crowded here with 2 people WFH, one caregiver, one infant and dogs.

I WAH, but because I only have a limited time to work when the babysitter is here, I have to be productive.

I start working around 8:45 or 9 (after dropping off my older LO at daycare). I jump right in if I have a project underway. Coffee break at 10. Continue on working until 12 or 1 and then break for lunch when LO2 is back home. I squeeze in whatever work I can while she naps. I usually end up working 3-4 evenings per week after both LOs are in bed. On days that I have less work, I take care of admin stuff and let myself relax a bit.

I WFH and have been for the past 3 years or so. Here's my evolution:

--at first, I would wake up at 7, shower, get dressed in normal work clothes/do my hair/put on make up, the works
--slowly, I would dress up less and less, and would occasionally just wear sweats and then a nice blouse (I work in the teleconferencing business, so all of my meetings are over video)
--when I was pregnant with C, taking naps during my lunch breaks were the best part of my day
--after having C, working from home was still manageable because I used our spare bedroom as an office/guest room, so I could shut the door if I needed privacy (my mom comes everyday to watch her)
--now, after having H, WFH is SO HARD. I lost my office (now H's nursery) so I work in our dining room with little privacy.

I usually don't shower until lunch, I never leave the house during the week (I eat lunch with C, then nurse H, then put them down for naps), and I almost never wear normal work clothes... I definitely need to mix things up, because I feel like my productivity has dropped, too! Our local office closed, so I always WFH and never go anywhere to work.

I have worked from home for 4 years, too. Before I had DD it helped me to take the dog on at least one walk a day, decorate my office, and take breaks for coffee and meals. It's so easy to skip breaks, but I found them to be really helpful! Even the occasional lunch time nap when I was pregnant ;) Now that DD is here (with a nanny or my mom in the living room) I only work PT and I usually just work 5 hours straight which feels awful (so tired of sitting!).

ETA: Go to a coffee shop one day a week if you can!

I WFH all day one day a week. My most productive days are when I take a shower first thing in the morning and write out my day's to do list. Also when I have 3 or more conference calls or webinars in a day I spend the rest of my time better.

I work from home a few days a week and get up into a routine I'm the morning, make myself shower and put my face on so I don't feel like a pile of crap and I try to run an errand or two out of the house when I can!

Then I also have slow days where I don't change out of pjs and am unshowered and unkempt. I nap frequently on those days.

I WFH but I'm afraid I'm no help! I really think I need to do something to get out of the slump I find myself in with it sometimes. I have a bad habit of working wherever I happen to be and I think making a point of having a "work only" zone (a pretty one!) needs to happen. And maybe changing out of pjs...

I WFH too and I get up every day at 6:45 am to start work at 7, lol. I typically don't shower until my lunch break. My job has been a little different than most since it's a call center and I used to only work when calls we're coming in.

Now my position has changed though so I do leave the house for field work and next week I'm training a new hire in the office. I'm going to miss the convenience of NOT driving to the city, that's for sure!

@wheres_c: Ohhh good suggestion, I should totally make my office look prettier.
I think i'll start by giving it a good clean tonight, maybe switch up my desk a little LOL. I too IM coworkers throughout the day which is a big help. Ya tend to feel out of the loop a lot when you WFH!

I WFH as well! I wish I had suggestions but I'm in the same boat. I try to get out of the house once a day for a walk, lunch, coffee with a friend, etc
I also made my workspace look pretty. I IM friendly coworkers during the day.

Any teleworker/work from home bees out there?

I've been doing it for about 4 years now, and I'm looking for ways to shake it up a little - I desperately need a new routine. I try not to complain about it too much, because not having to commute, is pretty darned awesome, but it comes with its own set of issues.

I admit, some days I wake up at 7:40, and head to my office in our basement to start my workday for 8am.

Anybody else who WFH have a routine that works for them that they'd like to share? Anything that helps you be more productive?
