@MrsRcCar: oh, I'm so glad to hear this :heart: the thing that I appreciated about getting a D&C was that my body felt like it was mine again literally within a couple hours after I got home--even though it was agonizing emotionally, I didn't feel like I was being held hostage by a phantom pregnancy anymore. and yes, like you said, it does feel very safe. I hope you have a smooth surgery and an easy recovery. xx
ETA: what a great husband :happy:

@LCTBQE: We got it all figured out in terms of insurance. DH made several phone calls while I took a hot shower to clear my head. We have the go ahead for Monday. I wanted a controlled procedure as much as possible because I solo parent 95%+ of my week. My doctor and I felt that the D&C would be my safest option. I am hoping our portion won't be terrible in terms of cost on our end. I am just ready for this to be over.

@MrsRcCar: I am so sad for your loss. this update about the money is unbelievable-- insult to injury. that is outrageous, especially when it's possible to have it done in an OB's office with Tylenol 3, or frankly, same thing happens all day long at PP and it doesn't cost 8000 bucks.

Is it possible that you could take misoprostol instead? Some women here have had not-bad-at-all experiences with that, and I know a few people IRL who also didn't think it was bad if they had codeine or something.

even with insurance, we had to pay $2000 out of pocket for my labor day D&C when I checked into the hospital, and we got about $1000 in bills in the few months afterwards. in fact just got another today--for $17. :meh:

All this worry maybe for not. I don't have my policy number for our new insurance so the hospital wants to pay 8,000 dollars just have this procedure Monday. It's not enough that this pregnancy is over and I have to wait the weekend to have a procedure. I may not get the procedure at all thanks to the new policies in accordance to the Affordable Care Act. Tell me how 8,000 is affordable.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I just had a D&C three weeks ago and I was really worried beforehand. The end of the year was a really busy time at work and it was right before Christmas (we have a three year old) so I couldn't exactly slow down much. It was actually much easier than the natural miscarriage I had back in June. The logistics of it all were the most stressful part (figuring out who could get DS to school, explaining to my bosses that I would be unreachable during a busy work time, etc.). The actual procedure took 30 minutes and I was put under for it. When I woke up, I ate some graham crackers and drank ginger ale and was home 5 hours after having left the house. The cramping during my natural miscarriage was quite uncomfortable but there was only some mild cramping that was well-controlled with some Advil. My procedure was in the morning so I spent the afternoon watching Netflix and dozing in bed as I felt pretty sleepy from the anesthesia. By 5 p.m. I was able to join my husband and son for dinner and the bedtime routine. The next day I was back at work at my office job with no discomfort whatsoever and I bled very lightly for about 6 days. Honestly, my natural miscarriage was much more uncomfortable than this.

@MrsRcCar: I'm so sorry to hear about this, sending you healing thoughts. I got a lot of caring, useful input here and I appreciated it so much.

When I had mine last March, there really was not a lot of bleeding right afterwards. By day 3 post-op, I did start to bleed more and passed some grayish tissue that looked to me like pieces of the gestational sac. It wasn't painful but was unexpected. Overall, there was never enough pain or discomfort to keep me from low-key daily activities and child care. I'm hoping your procedure goes smoothly and you have a speedy recovery. Take care of yourself!

Like @Nutella my D&C was in August. It was really uneventful. The hardest part was being wheeled into the room and I felt better once it was over. I had a tiny bit of spotting and then more bleeding after 2 weeks, which was random. No cramping or discomfort at all. I took 2 days off (D&C and day after) then was back at work.

@MrsRcCar: I'm so sorry :sad:

My d&c was in August and it was really smooth sailing, no pain at all thanks to the general. I also had my husband work from home the next few days so he could watch our LO & I could lie in bed and rest. Think that was why I had minimal spotting until I started moving around. Like others said, I had a few clots/tissue come out on day 5 but after that spotting tapered right off. Had to wait 6w for period to arrive again.

Emotionally I was up and down. Sometimes would think I was fine & 'over it', but then something would set me off and I wouldn't be able to function much.

Hope you get lots of hugs and spoil yourself with whatever treats you love :heart: :heart:
