@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Oo, let me know how you like it! I recently asked if the memory is good on the Fire b/c that's where I'm running into problems with the iPad.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: so all the child's profile set up stuff (wake/sleep times, content, etc.) is set up while logged into the parent account, under settings.

Then when you are done setting it up, you switch to the child's profile.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I believe your problem is you need to log in on the parent account and do everything you want to do (download, etc.). Then you "share content" in the child's settings (while still logged into the parent account). Then switch profiles to go to the child's account and the content should be there.

The tablet arrived and I must be missing something. There’s two profiles- LO’s and DH’s (his email is the Amazon account). LO’s profile doesn’t have the web browsing and the AppStore. I was able to download ABC Mouse under DH’s, but if LO uses it there how will that help with the parental controls and app time under his own profile? Please help me if you can.

My 3 year old loves his and we also liked the time limits as others have said. He's already learned a lot from it in just a short amount of time and has helped in his speech development. Ours came with a case that is shock proof which is also a plus. It's nice because he's gotten into too much on my phone and opens too many apps at a time while the pad only allows for one app to be used at a time. It is also kid proof so like @caitlanc pointed out if they want to explore certain content you have to log them in.

I love the time limits. Like @ronjal7 said, you can set maximum time limits for the day depending on content (30 minutes of shows/apps and unlimited books, for example.) You can also set off hard cut off times. IE. it won't work after 8:00pm even if they still have time left. At least with my boys, it means there isn't any complaining. Tablet being "done for the day" is just the way it is.

You also set what apps they have access to individually. For example, they can pull up PBS Kids on their own but if they want Netflix, I have to sign in.

I found the content subscription to be too much stuff and not easy to control. we ended up getting a samsun tablet so that I could use the apps I had already purchased on my phone. There were just WAY too many options for me to deal with.

My kids use them. You can log in as the parent and control the content of the kids profiles. You can set it up for an age range for suggested content. I like that feature. You can also set it up that they can't watch movies until they have read a book for a certain amount of time.

I can't find the link, but I googled "how to set up your kindle fire kids edition" and found a really helpful video.

Recently LO’s school sent home their ABC Mouse subscription info for parents in LO’s class. The plan was they would start using it in his room and suggest an activity that parents could reinforce at home. Of course I quickly activated ABC Mouse on my end, tried it out with LO on my iPhone and realized my screen is too dang small for this. DH looked into a tablet for LO to use and he pre-ordered the new Amazon HD 8. Then, two days later I talked to one of LO’s teachers and she told me they don’t even have a TV in their room to begin ABC Mouse.

Well the New Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet, 8" HD Display, 32 GB is still on it’s way, anyway. What do I need to know about this tablet (I’m not tech savvy) to make this fun for my 2.5 year old to use? What should I avoid so he doesn’t enjoy too much? Do you have any kid’s tech rules at your house?
