@QBbride: @catgirl: yes, it’s very confusing. Particularly since there is weight range when using both - my little one could still do LATCH only but was within the range for latch and belt so I just installed both the same way, especially since we occasionally drive other big kids around.

@Madison43: we have both the Fllo and Foonf. And the limits seem low, but the Foonf weighs in at 38lbs RFing (at least in Canada!) so I switched to a seatbelt install at 27 lbs (my car had a LATCH limit of 65lbs). One thing to note, is that Clek DOES allow LATCH+seatbelt install *but* only if the car manufacturer allows it as well. For instance, I was reading a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder manual the other day and it says use one or the other (as is the case with most car seats) so I took that as not allowing both together according to Nissan.

@Madison43: Oh i always forget about the lower limits on the foonf! It's one of only two seats that allow lower anchors and the belt to be used at the same time. Thanks for answering, curiosity got the best of me. :silly:

@catgirl: the foonf. Although we now do a combo LATCH/belt configuration - I have no idea if that’s unique to the Foonf or not?

@Mrs. Carrot: Oh, I was asking Madison43 which seats she has. She said her kids had hit the lower anchor limits at 30 and 34 pounds, I can't think of any seats off the top of my head that have lower anchor limits that low - was just curious. I totally get why you want lower anchors on the booster, otherwise you have to teach your kid to buckle it in whenever they get out which is a huge pain! Your marathon should go to 65 pounds, but again the two height limits are likely to be hit first.

@catgirl: For us, the Britax Marathon convertible had a LATCH limit of 40 lbs. The seat itself has a 60 lb limit on it for kid weight. I want a LATCH on the booster we get for peace of mind more than anything, though I know it's not an install measure like it is for other seats.

@Madison43: Lower anchor limits don't apply to boosters. The lower anchors just keep the booster from becoming a projectile when not in use, they aren't installing the seat, so the limit is not an issue. But it is so important with harness seats to pay attention to them! What seats do you have - those seem like low weights to be concerned about the limits?

@Madison43: Yup, I discovered that a few months ago in a post here somewhere actually. We did belt our seat since she did hit that limit, but the seat itself still has about 15 lbs left before she hits the limit, she just doesn't seem comfortable in it anymore.

@Mrs. Carrot: not directly booster related but in case you didn’t know, LATCH has a weight limit. I just had to switch from the LATCH to the belt for both my girls (30 and 34 lbs) bc the combined weight of the seat and my daughters exceeded the limit.

Thanks all! I kinda assumed this was the case re: harness. The Marathon is getting tight for her, even though she still has some wiggle room from a limit perspective, and at 5 and a half, she can handle the seatbelt, but then I saw harness boosters and couldn't tell if they're different enough to spend money on.

@Shantuck: @snowjewelz: "harnessed booster" is kind of a silly name that some brands use - it is truly called a combination seat. A combination seat starts as a harnessed seat and then transitions to a high back booster and sometimes a no back booster.

@Mrs. Carrot: I agree with others, assuming she fits in the harness of the britax seat there is no need for a combination seat. Most kids outgrow the marathon by torso height or standing height long before weight though, so make sure she is good on all three.

After age 5, assuming a child meets the minimums of the individual booster and has the maturity to sit properly, a booster is a perfectly acceptable option.

I agree with the posters above, if you don't have to switch from a convertible, just use that until she is ready for a belted high back booster. We switched my son at 5.5 because we needed the convertible seats for little brother. We have a graco high back booster with latch. Super easy to move around and the back comes off easily as well.

I didn't know that boosters could have a 5 point harness as I thought the whole point of booster seats was to use the automobile's seatbelt. I could be wrong but I think the 5 point harness feature is only in seats that can be used as a convertible carseat as well (rather than a seat being used in booster mode). We have the Graco Affix (https://www.target.com/p/graco-174-affix-youth-booster-seat-with-latch-system/-/A-15283452), which has the Latch connection and converts from high back to low back. We've been very happy with it. My 6 year old can get himself in the car and buckled up.

Same; we had to hand down our convertible, and were ready to forward face our first, so we got the Graco Nautilus. Was going to get Tranzitions but she was more comfy in the other.

As long as she still fits in the convertible, and you don’t have a younger sibling who needs that one, I don’t think it would make any sense to get a harness to booster seat. I got one so I could give the convertible to little sister before I was ready for my big girl to go into a booster.

We have a Graco affix high back booster with latch that would fit your parameters. We only use it in my husband’s car (she is harnessed in mine) and it was easy to put together and “install” (click the latch connectors in).

My daughter is 5.5, just under 50 lbs, 43 inches tall. She's still in a convertible - Britax Marathon - and we have some time on the weight, but we've been looking at moving her into a booster. I've been researching all the blogs and reading all the previous posts and would love to hear if there a benefit to getting a 5 pt harness booster, if we still have the convertible? Seems like there isn't and may not be worth the added cost but I'm not sure if I'm missing anything. Also, please recommend yours. I do want it to have a LATCH system and high back that can eventually convert to a non-back. Thanks!
