@Foodnerd81: yes, that's true! I don't care, as long as I know! They do go away if I drink water, so I figured the likelihood was BH. The nausea part is new, though, and not so fun...

@HLK208: not in my back-mostly in my pelvis. Just like I'm getting my period.

@Mrs. Sunshine: being in legit labor for a few weeks does not sound fun. I'm sorry about the pre-E, but I'm glad you didn't have to be in labor for weeks!

@illumina: @BabyBoecksMom: @char54: @wonderstruck: @travellingbee: thank you!! I had always heard (or thought I had heard) that BH were painless, so that's why I was curious. These are definitely NOT painless.

@rattles: I guess the water breaking would be a good sign. Also, I'm assuming early labor contractions are more regular. I was curious as to if these would be more regular, but nope. They just leave, so I've tried not to worry. I'll have to pay attention if they stick around, though!

Thanks ladies! I'm glad that you vote I'll know when they're real. One of my biggest fears is that I'll go into labor and have no idea!

Another vote for strong BH. I actually didn't think early contractions were dramatically different, but my water had broken and so I was ready for them. I will say that when they got serious, there was no mistaking it.

I had strong Braxton Hicks contractions like that intermittently from about 30 weeks on. I didn't go into actual labor until 40w+3

Also, it sounds like such a cliche, but when it's a real contraction you'll just know! I didn't believe when people said that and I always questioned whether my early twinges were the real thing...nope!

@char54: Funny, mine definitely felt like period cramps in the beginning. The only difference was that they came and went and kept going.

I had the same thing in the last week or two of my pregnancy, only I'd have several within an hour, but they would always stop once I was able to drink some water and lay down. Exactly like you said-- period cramp like with some nausea. I never really cared whether they were BH or real contractions-- what's the difference? I just cared whether it was labor or not!

They don't sound like legitimate contractions to me, just strong Braxton Hicks. I know there are rare exceptions, but for almost everyone, once you're having real contractions you'll know it, there won't be any doubt in your mind.

I felt something like that also, after walking for a while. Contractions for me felt much different (not at all like period cramps which I thought they would)... There was no mistaking them!

I had something similar to that (only much longer and stronger) and my doctor said that they are still categorized as Braxton-Hicks because it's not true labor. Not the answer I wanted to hear, especially because I was getting them every 4-5 min for 2 hours a night, but then they would always stop.

I know exactly what you are referring to. I used to get this in the afternoons whenever I had walked a lot that day. Mine was in my back...but so are all of my period pains as was my labour.

I was in early labor for 3 days before I was given pitocin because I was diagnosed with pre-E. I was 38 weeks & I believe I would have been in labor for the next few weeks if intervention hadn't taken place

Does the pain radiate to your back or hips? If not it sounds like strong BH's (which still stink)

Is it possible to have only one or two real contractions at a time, or are all of the early ones still considered Braxton-Hicks?

I ask because I am occasionally getting what feel like period cramps and nausea for about 30 seconds-1 minute, then they disappear. It happened once last Friday, and once again last night. The first time, I definitely felt my belly getting tight, and yesterday, I just got overwhelmingly nauseous for a minute or so, then it was gone. Each time, I've only had one, so I wasn't too concerned, but I am curious. Are these just really strong BH, or is it possible to have legitimate contractions for weeks before going into labor? I'm 31w 1d, and at my appointment on Monday, my cervix was closed. I figure I'll ask again when I go in next week, but I wondered what other bees' experiences had been.

Thanks!
