@kml636: yes thats what i thought too. I dont know whay everything cant be simpler since its all connected to the same social security number. When I was in england they have an NI number there and you dont have to file taxes there unless you feel you were over taxed for some reason.

Okay, I'm glad I'm reading this because I guess I just thought this would show up on my W2.

If you get a 1099 or W-2 you definitely need to report that as income. If you have questions, there should be someone you can contact at your employer.

@MamaG: well I didnt get anything through my employer. I applied to my state directly for STD, and when the 8 weeks was up they told me I qualified for up to 6 weeks of paid FMLA bonding time. And I only used 4 weeks of that and the 1099 I received is for that last 4 weeks.

Hopefully like you said I should receive any other paperwork soon

I'm not sure what you mean by FMLA in this case. Like @JennyLynn said, I believe it depends on who pays for your STD premiums and if it is a per or post tax benefit.

The good news is 1099s have to be made no later than 1/31.

@MamaG: Oh I see.. I only got a 1099 for my FMLA, should I be expecting one for my STD too?

Generally 1099s are reportable on your taxes. How it impacts your overall taxes is much more complicated and depends on your personal scenario.

@mrsaudi: It just says its a 1099 type form. So I'm not sure if that counts as w2?
@jennylynn: I'm not sure if I already paid tax on my STD. But I know for sure I didnt pay tax on the FMLA because they asked me if I wanted them to deduct 10% for tax and I said no because I needed the money at the time

@Mrsbells: Is it a W2? I received a W2 for short term disability when I took off work, and I had to add it.

I was surprised to receive a paper on mine too. Do you pay for your STD pre-tax or post? I pay for mine pre-tax so from what I understand I will be paying taxes on what I was paid when I file. Bummer.
