@bpcmarj: I flew to Ohio by myself with M when she was a little younger. I think the biggest tips I have are to pack lightly for carry-on and check your main bag. Use a backpack, if possible. When you get to the gate, get a tag from the agent at the desk (before going through the line to get on the plane). This will make sure you're prepared. Then, when it is time to get on, do one of two things. 1. ask someone to carry your stroller down the jet bridge so you don't have to or 2. put P in the stroller, stroll down the jet bridge, take her out, flatten the stroller and leave it before you get on the plane.

When you gate check, they will ask if you want it checked through or if you need it on your layover. They tag it accordingly.

@locavore_mama: my Dad is talking about flying me and P out to see him and my sister in Louisiana :) DH would have too much work to do to come with us!

@looch: good to know! Though we will likely switch planes.

I think it depends...if you're getting off but the plane is continuing on, you need to get it. If you're just getting off the plane, but will continue with it for the second leg, you might have to ask. Could be that they have diff. color tags.

Yes, when you check your stroller (or any bag) at the gate/plane; it goes on the plane and when you get off the plane, whether at your final destination or your layover, you have to get your stroller/bag and bring it to your next stop.

Usually you have to wait a little longer in the airbridge right after you step out of the plane and they bring the gate-checked items there.

Yep! It goes on last, comes off first. We just did this for the first time, and it was so easy! Plus, people were incredibly helpful. We bought the travel bag that is made for our stroller, and we had no issues. It was nice to be able to leave our jackets in there during the flight as well.

Looks like I may be travelling solo with my nearly 2 year old in April. There will for sure be a layover involved. When you gate check a stroller, does it go on the plane with you so it is available to use during your layover? Obviously I am clueless!
