@lizzywiz: I think they will be super nice b/c they will have parents dropping in on them all the time, ya know?! And they probably realize that even if they have a terror of a toddler with them, they're only there for an hour, max :)

@Greentea: there aren't really reviews on the childcare, although a couple side mentions and no complaints, so that is something.
We are having to go higher end than I wanted because the lower end places don't have childcare and that has been the main reason I don't work out. I am hoping costing more will actually mean better childcare than I envision (which is Lord of the Flies-style, btw, lol).

We are going to tour the place and that will probably put me at ease.

I have no idea where my nervousness is coming from- the kid already goes to full time daycare!

Anyway, thanks for the reassurances.

We've had great experiences with our gym daycare. Granted, it's pretty involved -- they have two levels of care for older and younger kids, kids' exercise and activity classes, etc, but even my clingy 12-month-old is usually totally fine with it. Sometimes our 3-year-old will whine about not wanting to go, but then he always has fun.

@lizzywiz: can you read reviews? There is only one kid daycare gym I would take LO to because it has good reviews from other parents.

Thanks, ladies! This is exactly what I needed to hear.
My fears are, embarrassingly, along the lines of what @blackbird: said: I am not as worried about her crying as I am that that they won't be nice. I have visons of kids a la Sid in Toy Story, lol.
Totally irrational but needed a nudge off the ledge.

I've been taking DS since he was 9 months or so and he loves it. In fact, he's been asking to go since I had DD and we've even gone to visit the staff once! Lol. I'm excited for us both to get back to the gym in a couple of weeks!

I have been taking my LO, and he's 10 months. During his separation anxiety phase, I got called back within 10 minutes, but we made a point to go almost every day, and he got to know the caretakers. So far so good, and they seem to do a good job with the older kids too - they play games and do storytime. It also has a huge glass front wall looking in so you can check on your kid anytime.

If your LO struggles at first, I think if you start going and develop a specific time/day you go, your LO will wind up with the same caretakers, as ours seem to have a set schedule.

I think you have to try, with the expectation that the first couple of times, you might not actually get to work out, as you might get called back to comfort them.

My 20 month old loves going to the gym daycare. She sometimes still cries a little when I leave her but she stops right away and always looks like she's having a great time when I pick her up.

I've taken her to the Y gym and the child care at the barre classes I attend. Some days are better than others but now a days she goes right in no problem!

I only did it a few times (trial membership and I haven't joined yet) but my one year old had a great time. And this is coming froma sahm who has never even left her with a babysitter. We went during off peak hours and often she was the only kid there. I'd sneak over and peak in when she could not see me and she was great.

The first time I dropped the kids off, they cried pretty hard and I had to hang out with them the whole time instead of working out. By the third visit though, they loved it!

In retrospect, I should've figured it'd take a few visits for them to get comfortable there. Now they love it! It's been a while since we went though... we'll probably start going more now that it's getting cold out!

I use it and love it. She cries when I leave but is fine two seconds later. I think she will like it more when she is walking, but it seriously saved me over the summer because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten any time to myself.

I've had great experiences at my CF gym's daycare.

They aren't going to jack them up on kool aid and let them play with lighters for an hour, so your LO will be ok :) E cries if she sees me so I drop her off and hide, then she forgets all about me and when I spy on her, I see her having loads of fun :)

I'm of the opinion, anyways, that even if it's not the best hour of her life....she'll get over it and tolerate it more as time goes on. Mama has to do something for herself sometimes :) im a "rip off the bandaid" kind of mom...

...tell me that my 2 year old will be fine if I join a gym with childcare and start dropping her off so I can work out (for the first time in almost 3 years since I had pre-e during pregnancy and never got back on the horse, so to speak).

Has anyone used gym childcare? what is your experience?
