Just wanted to add that My Fitness Pal has a barcode-scanning function, and it remembers your favorite foods. You can even enter recipes and it will figure it out.

For me, the website DietBet is very motivating.

Ugh, I'm almost 2 years PP and still a few pounds to lose. I did want to mention that LO was a terrible sleeper for the first 8 mos of her life, and didn't really regularly STTN for a few months later. I do all the night wakeups, and I found that I am just completely unable to really lose weight unless I am getting a reasonable amount of sleep at night. I think it is related to my metabolism, because my food choices / exercise regimen stayed the same but I suddenly starting losing around the same time that I was sleeping 6-7 hours at night consistently again. Every time there's a sleep regression I start to gain again.

Good luck!

@Jackiedavis87: good luck! Honestly calorie counting sounds annoying and time consuming but almost everywhere has calorie counts available and it really only takes me like maybe 5-7 minutes total per day. But I literally never worry about what I'm eating because I know if I stay within my calories I'll lose weight. It's just pure math and works. The real trick is figuring out what works for you!

I tracked calories and worked out (not aggressively, but regularly) and it took FOREVER to the pp weight to fall off. Around the 2 year mark, it all pretty much fell right off even though I didn't change my habits much then.

I echo that with age losing weight gets harder. In my early 20's it was easy. Not so much now! I also found that increasing protein really helped me to shed the pounds as well. Good luck - you are not alone!

I ended up losing weight without even trying when my acupuncturist put me on a fertility diet that prohibited flour (ate sprouted grain breads, rolls, bagels, english muffins, etc.) and added sugar. I never really felt hungry because I was replacing what I normally ate with another brand essentially (i.e. my turkey sandwich was eaten on Ezekial's sprouted grain bread instead of whatever else my family was eating). I snacked when hungry but had to make sure on the label that there was no added sugar in any form (ate lots of almonds, apples with almond butter, cheese on Mary's Gone Crackers, etc.). I did have splurges but mostly saved those for the weekend evenings.

@Jackiedavis87: I have no advice but I'm right there with you. I was 15lbs heavier than I'd like to be when I got pregnant with DD2. Now I am 6 mos PP and after the 18 I lost in the hospital I have had to fight tooth and nail to drop another 10...which leaves me 10 above my pre-preg weight and 25 above my happy place.

For me, calorie counting doesnt work. It doesnt matter how few calories I consume...if I eat carbs (bread specifically) I will not lose weight. I have been switching to a completely (or as complete as I can feasibly do with 2 LOs and a stressful FT job) whole diet. I eat a lot of overnight oats, avocado, animal proteins, nut fats, fruits, vegetables and GF starches (rice, potatoes, etc).

When I lost the 10lbs earlier this summer I was eating ridiculously "clean". Overnight oats for breakfast, nuts & a piece of fruit for snack, protein/avocado/rice for lunch, protein shake for snack and eggs/avocado for dinner. It was 1500 calories (I EBF) and I shed it in about 3 weeks. Now that I am back to work its hard to be as strict. I am working towards it and have been good this week.

I'm also adding in Spin class twice a week and some home videos. My goal is another 10lbs by mid October, Then 10 more by Christmas. After 20lbs I'll re-evaluate my goal weight.

@Jackiedavis87: just wanted to chime in with another vote for my fitness pal and exercise!

I was up about 25 lbs over where I wanted to be after a m/c and lots of comfort eating. I started working out but nothing helped until I added in tracking my food. I was able to lose all the weight and it made it a lot better when I got pregnant again.

I try to think of it as "tracking" my intake rather than calorie counting. I think once you get used to it it might feel empowering instead of restrictive. Then if at the end of the day I have some calories left over I can choose to have a little chocolate or beer but I know how to weigh the cost/benefit of that additional food.

You can do it!

I hear you. It took me a full year to lose all the weight from #1 and I am now 11 weeks pp with #2 and no matter what I do it won't budge. I joined Jenny Craig because I was getting so frustrated and I joined a gym and work out every day. I lose a few ounces every two weeks when I should really be losing like 1-2 lbs per week! My body is just being stubborn and holding onto the excess weight.

@wrkbrk: aww I love your threads too  I think we're cosmic twins!
@tofuwad: that is awesome that you lost that weight! I was really hoping to avoid calorie counting, because I was able to last time. But I suppose it's the next step before I hit the doctor.
@catlady: you may be right, running does make you hungry! I may be eating to much afterwards.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I will continue to chug along, and add in calorie counting to see if I may be over eating, portion wise.

@looch: this was so my problem. I spent years either vegan or paleo and/or whole 30, low-carb, etc. and I was overweight the whole time. And because I'm so short, an extra 300 calories of fruit will keep me overweight. It's frustrating!

One thing I discovered was that I had a harder time losing weight while doing consistent workouts than if I stopped working out altogether. Working out makes me hungrier than usual, and I think I end up eating more calories than I burn on those days, so my weight loss just stops. Not sure if that's happening to you, but you could try tracking to see what you're eating on your workout vs non-workout days and see if that's a possibility. My main method of losing these days is to stop working out and then add it in for toning after I've accomplished most of my weight loss and just want to maintain.

I also realized recently that the amount of food/calories that I was eating pre-LO to maintain my "happy weight" was actually extremely low, and after having LO, it seemed like I just needed more food (however, this could be due to being pregnant and then EBFing for 12 months and my body just got used to more food). I'm pregnant again now but at a certain point pre-preg, I tried going back to my "old" diet and I was starving all the time. I feel like some people's metabolism just changes after having a baby. :/

@tofuwad: Yes, what you wrote! I found that my biggest issue was not in making bad food choices, it was the size of the portions I was eating.

I've had great success with weightwatchers, I just do tracking on my phone using their app and the weight has come off without too much effort. It's been 11 weeks and I am down a full size (about 9 pounds).

Weight loss is all about what you're eating! The best decision I ever made was to download MyFitnessPal and start tracking my food. I was eating way more than I thought. I was actually eating like 700 calories worth of fruit every day, and I found out my "one serving" of oatmeal was more like 2 servings. And weight loss is way more about calories than what foods you're eating. With more exercise you may be getting hungrier and eating more than you realize, that was the case with me anyways. I started tracking my calories in June and today I'm officially down 30lbs. And because I track my calories, I'm able to eat as much dessert and bread as I want and keep losing. Seriously, calorie tracking apps are my savior. It's literally the first time in my life I've ever been able to lose weight.

Okay I'll get off my soap box now! I wish you the best on your journey.

@looch: @Mrsbells: @avivoca: @Banana330: ok lots of questions lol. I'm 8 months post partum. I've exclusively formula fed the whole time and I've never been on birth control. I've actually considered getting an iud, but haven't yet because I didn't want it to impede my already stagnant weight loss. I'm 28, but I told my Fitbit that so the calories it suggest should account for age. I've actually thought about going to the doctor and having some test ran. I had pre-e while pregnant and it didn't actually go away till 9 weeks pp. thyroid issues do run in my family, so that may be something to look into. I just wanted to see what the average timeline was, so that I could decide if it was an issue worth getting checked out by a doctor or if I should just struggle on.

Agreed, are you breastfeeding/on BC? I just could not lose weight when I was BF. Once I stopped, I gained back about 5 pounds, but I started to lose it only by eating right, making sure I was doing weight bearing exercise, and then running on top of that. It was slow, and I was on my way to my pre-preg weight when I got pregnant again.

Also, when you are working out, the thing that helped me was to not focus on the number on the scale so much as how my body was changing. Since I was lifting weights, I was gaining muscle, not losing weight as much. I made a skirt using my measurements from months earlier because I figured I weighed the same, so everything must be the same. Nope. I had lost about three inches in my waist and ended up making the skirt too big. So try tracking your measurements also to see how your body is changing.

Are you still breastfeeding? Are you on birth control?

I'm still carrying around most of my baby weight 16months pp. My weight stayed exactly the same regardless of the exercise or eating I was doing, I hoped I would be one of those people who lost tons once I stopped breastfeeding. I recently got my IUD out and stopped breastfeeding a few months ago but was still stuck. I met with a naturopath to go over my hormones and weightloss. I've only just started but i've upped my protein a ton, cut all snacks. It's worth looking in to any medical reasons (thyroid, diabetes etc) before working with a dietician, nutritionist or naturopath to help kickstart things.

If y'all can't tell, I'm having one of those "I need to better myself days" lol. As of right now I'm still carrying around 30 extra pounds of baby weight  , and that shit will not come off! 5 years before DS I lost 55lbs in about 8 months, with a combo of eating right and working out. I eventually did the c25k app and started running 3 miles 5 to 6 days a week, and that is what helped me drop the last 10lbs. Fast forward to now and I eat like a freaking bird, and run 3 miles 4 to 5 days a week, and I'm struggling to lose 5lbs. I even got a Fitbit so that I could make sure I was eating enough, and not to much. Anyways...is there like a magic month pp where your body decides to get with the program and weight starts dropping? Tell me what you are doing, or dido lose the baby weight? I'm thinking about getting into cross Fit? I reeaallllyyy got to do something with myself. I worked so hard the first time to lose the weight and the way I felt after was amazing, I'm starting to think that some of the intamacy issues I'm having, have to do with how I currently feel about my body.
