@jetsa: Hey lady, I'm the anomaly here apparently, but I had my hair in a long pixie when my SIL was going through chemo (I chopped and donated it) and it was the easiest cut I've ever had. I have really fine but really thick hair, and it's the first time in my life I could blow dry my hair in under five minutes flat.

After drying, I put a little styling wax on my fingers and literally went through my whole head, super crazy, then looked in the mirror and played with the pieces that were too wild-looking so it'd look cute. You know, just the right amount of bed-head. :) I think you'll have a similar experience with the cut you chose! For me, it was literally shower to ready-hair in ten to fifteen minutes, max.

This might be useless info for you if your hair is really different from mine, but I used this before drying: http://ep.yimg.com/ay/sleekhair/redken-aerate-08-all-over-bodifying-cream-mousse-3-2-oz-2.gif and this after drying: http://www.buydrugsfromus.com/m/images_us/herbal-essences-set-me-up-texturizing-wa.jpg

I also used dry shampoo for texture often, on washing days and non-washing days. :) Enjoy!

Short hair is the BEST!

Mine is thin, but not too thin and shorter than the pic. I wash it every day, but it's hardly any trouble because it's so short. And it dries quickly. I never blow dry it and I just use a bit of pomade in it to spike it up or make it look messy.

The only trouble is upkeep, in terms of keeping it cut.

I just had my little girl's hair cut into a cute pixie. It's adorable.

I highly recommend short hair!

Thanks ladies! I'm going to try it, it's just hair afterall. My MIL didn't seem to think it'd be high maintainence with my hair type so I guess I'll find out. The shortest my hair has been in the last 20 years was a chin length Bob so this will be interesting.

Love Jlaw's cut! I have a pixie currently and it's actually shorter than in the photo. I'm going to disagree with a few ppl and say it IS easy to style and super low maintenance!

I have super thick curly/wavy hair. That's one reason why I like mine so short. I get it cut every 4 weeks because it grows really fast (and now I'm pregnant).

I wash my hair every other day but I do apply conditioner every day in the shower. To style it I comb it through in the shower and apply styling paste with my hands when it's wet and that's it. I let it dry in its natural wave on top.

The only time my hair doesn't look good is when I fall asleep on the couch, lol. I just throw on a hat! I love having low maintenance hair.

@ducky: awesome thanks for the recommendations. I'll text her, I have to be very clear with her because her son has always been adamantly against short hair so she would never cut it that way without my urging. Umm your son doesn't control what I do with my hair :silly:

@jetsa: I think if you have natural wave and want short + convenient, you could probably get away with something similar to what JLaw has, but with a smidge more length and volume at the front. If you can still tuck it behind your ears (even if only just) or clip it when you don't have a lot of time, you can get away with a LOT less styling, and you still get the feel of short hair. Natural wave should keep the back looking pretty most of the time without too much effort, but yes, your MIL would probably know your hair the best!

I don't know about all of you, but there is something about that bare neck that kind of made me feel just that much sexier all the time.

@jetsa: I have fairly fine hair, but a ton of it. It's quite straight, so if I didn't style my hair when it was this short, it basically looked like a little boy's hair cut.

To make it look good, I typically had to:
1. blow dry (if I washed it)
2. usually flat iron, depending on what shape I managed to get with my blow dryer.
3. Used a lot of pomade to create the piece-y bits that make the style look so good, and to scrunch it up to get more volume, as my hair likes to lay super flat.

Probably around 1/2 hour of work, but that is likely because I am kind of inept at hair styling. When I fix one side, somehow I've managed to ruin the other.

If you have hair similar to JLaw (with that nice little lick at the back that keeps it soft-looking and feminine, and a bit of bounce and natural wave) you could likely pull this off without any blow drying or flat ironing. Just use a good hair wax to separate and shape where you want the hair to go. I also think the longer. wispy strands at the front would have helped me out a lot, too!

So i loved having short hair BUT it is much higher maintenance than long hair. I have long, thick hair now. I can braid it, throw it up, bun it, whatever. With a short cut, it got greasier faster b/c i had to use "styling paste" to hold it in place and i had to style it every single day or it looked like shit. It was NOT a wash and wear style

@jetsa: I had to fully blow dry my hair with a round brush, then run a flat iron through it. Maybe 30-40 minutes? I have REALLY thick hair & mine takes much longer than a normal persons to dry and style.

ETA: my hair is naturally wavy, so I had to dry with a brush then flat iron. My hair got super curly and even thicker with both pregnancies, and stayed that way, so I couldn't pull off the exact same cut again.

If you've got the face and hair type for it, I say go for it! (You know, not too fine, curly or frizzy, otherwise styling would take longer) I just about always encourage haircuts because they grow back, just remember that super short ones like that are a pain when you do decide to grow them back to a longer style (all one length). But if your MIL cuts hair I'm sure the transition would be much easier for you!

I'm with you all on the styling aspect. It's the only reason I haven't gotten that exact cut, despite my brain telling me how great short hair was.

It really depends on your hair type, tho, too. Some people can pull that off with nothing more than running some pomade through it and giving it a shake. I just wasn't so lucky :)

The only thing stopping me from doing it again are lazy days. I always had to style me hair. I have way too many lazy days of nothingness at home, or wake up late and run to school days. I love being able to throw my unwashed hair into a ponytail!

Can't do that with short hair. Mine was always a hot mess and needed to be washed/styled daily!

My hair is driving me batty. Its still falling out at 13 months pp and being pregnant again, I'm just sick of dealing with it. A few months ago I cut off 6" but it grows so fast its already back again. As those of you who follow me on IG know its always in a ponytail and I'm just sick of it.

I like this from JLaw but I'm afraid it'll be too much of a mom cut.

Thoughts, suggestions? My MIL is a hair stylist so having to get it cut often isn't that big of a deal to me. I'm allergic to earrings so would that ruin cutting it this short?
