We have a cabinet with doors that we use, it is divided up with shoebox sized clear plastic containers inside that each have a different toy/set of toys in them. The kids have to put back the previous box to get a new one which keeps things tidy!

If you need smaller bins that close I love container store's closet basics. I don't know if they would fit perfectly in a kallax since I don't have that but they have many sizes. I use the shoebox size (it's like 1.99 and I think on sale this week) and one the size of two shoeboxes. Fits a set of toys perfectly like our mag formers in one, shopkins in one, etc. With my older being 5 we have more things with small pieces that can't go in open bins. They have snap on lids so are less likely to get constantly dumped out, but still kid friendly for my older. 2yo isn't good at opening and I consider that a bonus
Also I love that every container store item listing has dimensions so you can check before you go in or ship. They also do curbside pickup if you have one close by!

Another vote for the Kallax! We have an 8 cube one in our playroom area, and another four cube one upstairs in our dining room. All of the toys she keeps on the main level fit into bins we have in there, so I like that it just looks like regular storage.

We actually have two more upstairs in bedrooms too!

I have a bigger kallax, the 4x4 square one. It holds a ton. The downside is smaller things can kind of get lost. I think I need to get some clear shoe box size things for smaller things (like blocks or smaller dolls or whatever). We have cloth covered square bins from IKEA as well that fit perfectly.

Here is ours in our old place. It's mounted on top of over the regirgerator cabinets for extra storage underneath.

We also use the Kallax with toys in the foldable bins inside (the cloth ones they sell at Ikea). We also have the ikea fabric suitcases for toy storage, which DS loves.

@Mrsbells: I really like the ikea ones compared to the other brands at walmart and target. The wood is much more solid and the frame is much thicker. I can sit on top of mine and its solid.

@Mrsbells: We actually have those. They aren't the Hemmes though. I think the name is Kallax.

Works good for most shaped things and the top is good for anything that doesn't fit in a bin/cube. The cubes are deep for books, so those books they have pictured maybe only take up like 1/2 to 2/3 of the shelf (you can kinda see on the top left cube how much space is behind the books).

We have the Ikea Hemmes storage system and use it as a mix of his bookshelf and toy storage. I would not say it's particularly clever or original, but it fits the bill.

I'm not home, but it looks very similar to this. We actually even have these baskets.

DD has so many toys. I got rid of a lot of them when we moved. but a lot of things are stillin boxes. As we get ready to move into our home I am trying to think of cute ways to store things in her room. Previously she had a play kitchen in our dining room area and we created a fenced off area around it for her toys but now that its a new house I want to actually have a dining room for dining rather than a play room. Do you have any cool toy storage ideas?
I already know about the "zoo" for stuffed animals and I think we will have to make that for her but I am looking for bigger storage than that
