@Anagram: it'll be nice to be close to her should you need to! It would kill me when they'd call me and say she had 103 fever and It would still take me almost an hour to get to her.
I will say that DD transitioned to a sippy cup literally in an hour. Around 13 months, she was sick and we were stuck waiting in the doctors office for over an hour. I think she was so parched that she was willing to take any drink she could get however she could get it. She drank her entire sippy cup and never ever went back to a bottle again.

When my boys turned 1, I switched their daycare and our current place sounds similar to what you heard.

When they started, they were still drinking from bottles, but they worked with me to transition them. I also still brought empty bottles in just in case they wouldn't drink anything from the sippy cups, but they caught on quickly. I think because of watching the other kids in the class.

They also were not walking when they started there, only cruising. It only took a few weeks after they started to be fully walking. Again, I think it helped them seeing other kids do this.

I am sure they'll be willing to work with you to transition your LO!

@Smurfette: I hope so! She did start pulling up 3 weeks ago and *just* started cruising a little, so hopefully it's on it's way. But her little legs aren't really steady enough to walk even with her walker or with me holding her hands. If she's really close to walking by Sept, I think I'd go ahead and put her in the toddler room.

@Tidybee: thanks! This place is actually way out in Bergen county where I work. I think the commute will be hard on LO (and me), but it's literally almost half the price. And still nice. So I'm really going back and forth.

Our current place in Hoboken doesn't provide any snacks or food. Since LO has a dairy allergy, I'm not sure if daycare food is a good thing or bad thing at this point, but the convenience appeals to me.

@Anagram: Yeah we kept cycling through sippies. We got this one cause she stole another girls at day care!
But I do agree, a lot can change between now and Sept! And if she sees the other kids walking, she will probably just take off!

@Anagram: the daycare we used was really flexible with her bottle to sippy cup transition. I would send both and they would try with the sippy cup first and then give her the bottle if they felt she didn't drink enough. They also provided her breakfast and lunch and snack but I sent some of my own food as well (although it was frowned upon by the administration but te teachers were totally fine with it). It was in Hoboken so let me know if you want more info.

@Smurfette: we have that one, and she would only chew on it. She's been using the take and toss sippies, but it may be time to go back and try the Nuby again now that she understand tilting a sippy.

@Anagram: R had issues with not drinking much when we went to straw cups. We tried these sippy's and she did great with them. She will sit down and drink the whole thing of milk like it is a bottle, if we let her. Maybe try these?

@Smurfette: @Mamaof2: Thanks, ladies. I basically wanted to hear that it's normal.

The daycare I go to now is in an urban area, so in a much smaller space and the infant room has babies 6 weeks-16 months, with the walkers seperated from the non walkers by a long bookshelf and big gate. The teachers move freely back and forth between the two areas, so I think the older kids are still kind of treated like infants in that room. Lots of them are still on bottles.

But hopefully this summer, LO will progress a lot and be ready for the toddler room!

Our DCP is also no bottles in the toddler room and they are put on a schedule - snack at 9, lunch at 12, nap 1-3, snack at 3:15.

My DS wasn't walking yet but they moved him anyway and he quickly started to walk (maybe because he saw all the other kids doing it??)

I would imagine though that they wont let your baby starve/dehydrate if she is only on bottles, but I imagine they will try to switch her and have you bring in sippy cups.

I know it seems daunting right now but lots could change btwn now and Sept - I wouldn't stress about it

In R's old center they moved up at 12 months. They prefer them walking, but will move up if they are just cruising. There were kids in there at 15 months still taking a bottle. I don't think that they can say kids can't have a bottle. I am guessing, they would just put their milk in a bottle, verses a sippy. I don't see why that would matter.

We went cold turkey with bottles at 12 months, so R was off when she moved up.

I'm thinking about switching my LO to a daycare close to my job, as opposed to close to home. I toured the daycare yesterday and a couple of things the teacher said kind of threw me for a loop. 1) she mentioned all kids in the 1< room don't use bottles anymore 2)the daycare provides two snacks and lunch and lists "milk" with every meal, but I guess she means out of sippies/straw cups 3) she said they are "all" walking.

I asked what the plan will be if my LO isn't walking yet (she'll start in September and will be 13.5 months). She's 11 months now and not really close to walking at all. The teacher seemed confused and said if I wanted, I could put her in the infant room then. But it seemed like I was the only person ever to ask that question. I know not ALL kids are walking by 12 months, so it seemed weird to me.

I am also stressing about the "no bottle" situation. Right now, my LO will only drink maybe .5-1 oz from a sippy on a good day, and hasn't figured out straw cups at all. She still drink 4-5 bottles a day right now, 2 at daycare.

Will my LO really be ready for this place by September? Is it strange that the teacher was acting like ALL babies are off bottles and walking at exactly 1 year when they move to the toddler room?

The teacher was awfully young and normally teaches the 4 year old, so maybe she is just out of the loop on the toddlers....should I follow up with another email about these questions?
