DD1 is a fantastic big sister. She is so helpful in just about every way, and at nearly 5 months, I think DD2 adores her more than anyone. I love it. </p> <p>For my DD1, though, I think the transition was a little rough for the first 3-4 months. Even now she will say things like, 'You can't always play with me because you always have to feed Sis.' Baby born in september, oldest turned 3 in October. </p> <p>My oldest:<br /> - sleeps through the night<br /> - is potty trained<br /> - can dress herself<br /> - can play by herself<br /> - can follow directions<br /> - is helpful<br /> - is in preschool 3x/wk</p> <p>We were smooth sailing until two months in, when we started noticing some jealousy issues. Im pregnant now and the next 2 will be only 2 years apart and Im scared. At 3 my son was a lot more independent I felt like. He started school part time shortly after his sister was born so I got a little breather and one on one time with her. I didnt potty train him before but honestly its easier changing 2 diapers than it is to clean up and chase after messes all over the house. When I did train him at 3 1/2 it only took a week with a small handful of mistakes. Was it fun, no but potty training never will be at any age. He was old enough to leave alone for short bits of time downstairs when I went upstairs to nurse, change, or put the baby down. He was also old enough to help me a little, like handing me stuff or closing the doors for me when I had too much in my hand. If we decide not to stop at one (under great debate at the moment), then want at least a 3 year age gap, hopefully closer to 4. My sister and I are 3yrs 8 months difference and although we hated each other in elementary school, as soon as she was in high school we had a great relationship that continues to this day. Day care is so stupid expensive here that we can't afford to have 2 in at once, and I mentally cannot stay at home with 2 So ideally my son would be in pre-k or kindergarten when the second arrives. My mom highly recommended it. Ours are now almost exactly 3 as well. I love it. I watch videos of her at 2 and can't imagine that now even though we started trying a lot closer to that. I don't know if having a girl makes a difference too (for older one) but she's so grown up and capable. Extremely verbal and really understands everything I say. Can follow very complex instructions and be a real helper.
