Our naps went to heck around that time and we had NO schedule. So, I just decided to work on one. We basically went to a two nap 2-3-4 schedule. Nap 1 is two hours after waking, nap 2 is 3 hours after waking from #1, and bedtime is 4 hours after waking from #2. After a week or so it was easy to see that there were specific times that she got more sleepy, so now it's a mixture of the schedule and baby-led.

@autumn865: yeah, that's me these days! Hubs gets home from work and is like... What have you done all day? Umm, kept the baby alive and not threathened to give him away?! Pretty big accomplishment ;)

@FutureMrsMcK: wowww. Poor little guy!

@prettylizy: @banana: it's good to hear how real babies sleep! For some reason I was under the impression that babies this age always had 2 good length (like 1.5-2+ hours each nap) naps a day and that was that. I stand corrected!

Maybe my next step is dropping his middle nap for him. It's always the shortest. 10 min long today for example!

My DD is almost 7 months (next week) and her nap schedule is something like this:

8am: Wake up
10:30: Nap #1
12am: Wake up
2:30: Nap #2
3:30-4: Wake up
7-7:30: Sleep

She usually sleeps between 1-1.5 hrs and takes 2 naps. Sometimes if her naps are shorter, we may sneak in a short cat nap at around 4 (for 40 mins). We wake her up after 40 mins so that she'll go down easier at night.

@Bao: wow, okay. that's cool. did you have to do anything to keep her on that schedule, or do you do it all by sleep cues/sleep routines?

I'm hoping LO will just realise one day that 2 long naps are much nicer than 3 stupidly short naps! O_o

@FutureMrsMcK: Ooh, yeah. I think I remember seeing one of your threads, he's popping something ridiculous like 7 teeth in one go?! I think LO is starting to pop his 2 lower teeth, so his day sleep has been non existant the last couple of days

@Penny Lane: Oh it's really hard to plan anything/get anything done. I'm working towards trying to keep him awake for longer stretches...but my first priority was getting him to nap in the crib, and now he's teething like nobody's business and he's miserable and tired all of the time, so I'm not pushing too hard right now. Once we're over this hump I'll try a bit harder to stretch out his awake time (and ideally, his naps as well :)

@FutureMrsMcK: wow! That's a lot of naps! do you like it that way? or do you find it's hard to do stuff during the day??

My 6.5 month old wakes up around 8-9, nurses, and goes right back to sleep for 1.5-2 hours. After that he's usually awake for 90 minutes then sleeps for 30 minutes. Some days he randomly naps for longer, or stays awake for 2 hours, but generally his trend is 90-30, which averages 4-5 naps a day.

My 6 month old still has no semblance of a nap schedule. Now, I know this is a lot my fault (because I'm unorganised as heck) but I'm curious to know how other 6 month olds sleep!

How many naps do they have a day?
LO seems undecided whether he wants 2 or 3 naps a day these days.

(Follow up...) If they have 2 naps a day, how did they transition from 2 to 3? Did you do it? Did they just stop being sleepy at the normal times?

(Follow up to the follow up...) If you transitioned them, how did you do it? How did you know they were ready?

What is their usual morning wake up and bed times?
My LO goes to bed between 8 and 9pm, and wakes up for good anytime from 7 - 8:30am, with a night feed (or 2) in there somewhere.

On average, how long are their naps, and when do they normally start?
His are generally 45 min - 1 hour long. Often as short as half an hour, and a few times he's gone crazy and slept 1.5 - 3 hours in one go. Generally, I think he normally has one nap mid morning. If he's going for a 3 nap day he'll have a nap at around lunch, and a final nap mid to late afternoon. If he's going for 2 naps, he'll drop the lunch time nap and have a second nap mid afternoon (think like 2 or 3pm ish.)

Now, I LOVE when he has 2 naps. The second one is nearly always longer than an hour which gives me lots of time to do my work.

I guess at the end of the day, my question is how can I convince him to consistently take 2 naps a day?

Much obliged! :D
