Yeah I think phases of bad behavior are par for the course at that age. One of my LO's was on the cusp of an ADHD diagnosis at about 6 years old. Two things made a huge difference: diet (limiting sugar especially), and setting him up for success with enough creative/physical outlets. The changes were not overnight...more like 2 years + growth in maturity, but medication was never an option in my book so I was prepared to try anything beforehand.

I would just keep tabs on it for now. Unless his behavior is really, really far outside the realm of normal, most professionals will be reluctant to dx anything that young. We got our dx at 7 and I would not have wanted to pursue it any younger than that.

By us they won’t diagnose until 6 I think? So i think he has a little time to mature still but I would def keep an eye on it. And it also needs to be a problem at two places ie school and home. Is his behavior a problem at school as well?

DS is in the midst of some really bad behavior issues. I’m talking leaving Target without groceries bad (for me that’s a big deal). He’s 4.5 and it seems like his behavior has actually gotten worse in the past few months instead of maturing.

My mom is a psychologist and she thinks he might he be exhibiting some ADHD behaviors. He’s super smart but at pre K I’m hearing that he’s been spacey and unfocused lately.

Any experience with an ADHD diagnosis at an early age? What type of treatments have you tried? Successful strategies?
