We hardly baby proofed, we just put a cushioned corner guard on the fireplace, that's pretty much it for the first 2 years.

Then at age 2, we had to put the childproof cabinet locks on and we had to put the outlet covers in. If I could find something that locked the toilet flusher, I'd be super happy!

We've babyproofed as LO has grown based on what she likes to get in to. We've put covers on the outlets, gates on the stairs, and cabinet locks on the cabinets we don't want her in. She hasn't needed anything else so far. Though, she's becoming a climber, so we need to anchor some furniture.

@NaturallyCathy: Great idea! We have one of those too so we have sort of been through this before :) He didn't chew on much-- we were very fortunate!

This is going to sound silly but think of a puppy - whatever is at puppy level (knee level and below) is fair game. That means books, wires, magazines, trash cans, dvds, etc. Whatever a puppy might chew on, a baby will probably pick up and try to put in their mouth. So pretend you have a sweet puppy who wants to explore everything and go from there!

Gates and outlet covers for when they start crawling. And obviously anything dangerous out of eye level for them.

@Meggo5: Picture of that condition? Other bees might've had a similar condition and can provide suggestions. :)

Our LO, 8 months old, is getting ready to be on the move! We have really put off baby proofing the house but need to give it some serious thought now.

We live in a home that has a landing/loft area at the top of the stairs and I am extremely concerned about how we're going to block this off. The slats in the banister are quite large and we will need to put up some kind of protector (either plexiglass or something like a plastic chicken wire-- both eyesores, of course!) Besides that, I am looking for some ideas on what's absolutely necessary in the beginning, when they start to crawl.

What did you do to babyproof your home?
