We are getting DS baptized next week! We had the option of doing it in Mass, but opted for private due to scheduling. We invited all of mine and DH's close family (parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins who live close enough to come) plus our close friends. It's about 60 people total. We will have lunch right after. My IL's wanted to have it catered so we're letting them (buffet style, nothing too fancy). However, typical baptisms in my family would serve lighter fare- veggie tray, lunch meat/sandwich stuff, snack food, and a cake. Catering is considered over the top by my family and friends for it, but IL's really wanted it and you have to pick your battles. We would have the lunch after at our home, but we have a small apartment. We had a to rent a small hall because our church doesn't have a space for it.

DH and I are both cradle catholics, so we have been around lots of baptisms. We live a few hours away from his family while my parents are across the country. We ended up having the baptism in the city where his parents live which has a bigger airport and was easier to have people travel to.

We ended up doing it at the catholic h.s. where DH went, and it was a private ceremony after the mass. LO wore my great-grandmother's baptism dress which has been passed down through the generations. It was really special!

Afterwards, we had a party at my ILs. We did invites over Evite so people knew the times and the details. It worked out really well and we had a lot of fun.

Also, since DH was already an alum of the school, we didn't have to do any prep and neither did the godparents, we just gave a "donation" to the priest.

My dads family had a reunion at the beach house last summer, so we planned for DS to get baptized at the church there.
It was a beautiful private ceremony on my parents' wedding anniversary, which was also the same day I was baptized many years ago :)
After we had a cookout at the house in the courtyard with finger sandwiches and snacks indoors. It was so much fun.

ETA - I printed invites and sent them to family, close friends and a few of our neighbors from down the beach.

I'm originally protestant, although have been attending Catholic Church for the last few years. SO is Catholic. LO will be baptised in the Catholic Church next month. I have never attended a baptism other than my own as a baby, Catholic or otherwise. I have no idea what to expect. :)

How was your baptism?
If Catholic, was it during a mass? or privately?
Did you have a party? At home or at the Church?
Who did you invite? Did you print invitations?

Tell me about your childs baptism! bonus points if you have pictures.
