@MrsTal: I just ordered it. I live in the middle of nowhere so had no chance to try it beforehand. I have a Nissan Pathfinder so I wasn't too worried about it fitting.

@LulaBee: Our second set of seats if for my parents (DH has a Mazda 3 and it is impossible to have more than one child in there, but we originally intended our second seat for his car). After our first outgrew his infant seat we moved him to a Britax Marathon 70 and had an Evenflo Symphony for DH/grandma to use. I HATE that car seat, but it was a lower price point and doesn't get used as often. When we moved DD to her Marathon CT, we put the infant seat in grandma's car (she is small at 18 mo and still has ~2" in it). We just upgraded DS to a combination seat and his old Marathon will go to grandma for DD to use. When we have the new baby the infant seat we got him/her will go with them (Cybex). So really we have only purchased one additional seat for a second car thus far. It is kinda nice now that you can play musical seats a little and not have to keep buying.

I do hear wonderful things about the Cosco Scenera NEXT on the CSFTL FB page and it's only a $44 seat, which might be a good inexpensive option for those looking for a second seat (or anyone that wants a less expensive seat). It RF and FF 40 lb and 40".

@MrsADS: We actually have three seats to fit our son at all times. My mom watches our son 4 days a week, so we leave one installed in her car. Then we have one in each of our vehicles because our schedules are different each week and we change up who's picking him up sometimes. We could probably get away with only having two, but it's more convenient to leave them properly installed in each car rather than taking them in and out frequently. We have different seats in each car because I like to try out different products and it's hard to know what's best. If you're likely to have a tall LO (we do) then I'd consider a clek foonf (or fllo), diono radian/ranier, or Britax boulevard click tight. There are probably more that have height limits at 43", but I'm not familiar with them. With a tall LO a seat with a 40" max height for rear facing will only probably get you to about 2.5-3 years old and then a couple more years in a forward facing position.

@MrsADS: we bought 2 radians- found on sale at zulily. So pricey, but with that particular seat you'll never need to buy a booster, it goes from birth until they're out of a carseat.

For those of you with convertible seats and 2 cars, did you buy two seats? Two of the same or two different? DS is due in August so obviously we have time. We bought an infant seat with two bases to use at first. I think time will probably be fairly equally split between my car and DH's car.

I assume we'll probably need 2 convertible seats - gonna be SO much money since they are so expensive, ugh. Plus, DH and I are both tall so I have a feeling DS will be pretty long/tall and will probably outgrow the infant seat quickly!

@MrsTal: we actually saw it at our local Buy Buy Baby. We tried the Foonf, the Nextfit and the Radian in our primary car at the time (A Chrysler Sebring, now DH's). Surprisingly, the Foonf took up the least space front to back. The seat felt really hard to me, but DD seemed to prefer it over the squishy, cocoon like feeling of the Nextfit. I'm sorry your store doesn't have it! If there is any other info that would be helpful to you, feel free to ask!

@MrsTal: I just ordered it. We don't have BBBaby nearby, but I could have gone to a local high end baby shop that had it. Have you called around to any smaller, specialty baby shops in your area? They might have one to try out (and then you can purchase online). Even though it is big and heavy many places offer free returns for baby items. We purchased ours from Albee Baby online with free shipping, no tax, and coupon code, and a gift card earned from another purchase. We actually only paid $270 for it, which is comparable to many other car seats.

We have the graco my size 65 and I really like it, although admittedly we sort of bought it without a ton of thought because we planned for it to be in my DH's car and used only for daycare drop off (but then ya know... job loss, ended up in my car, etc). But I like that it was easy to install and that changing the shoulder height is really easy. Plus it has a cup holder and should allow extended RF. I used this to research: http://carseatblog.com/carseatblogcoms-recommended-car-seats/

If you're likely to have a tall LO, then the Britax Boulevard Click Tight will last the longest for RF. I've asked about this on car seats for the littles on FB because I have a pretty tall 2.5 year old. Our favorite seat that we own is the Foonf. It's been his probably seat since he was about 7-8 months old. We have a Diono Ranier in my husband's truck. We use the angle adjuster for that (saves front to back space), but you're little one is probably too young for that. Both of those are pretty good for extended rear facing and tall kids. In my mom's car we have a maxi cosi pria. While it is a comfortable seat for him, the RF height limit is only 40 inches, which my LO will likely hit around 3ish.

I really love our Foonf. It was $$ but when I factored in that we would be using it multiple times a day for 4 years it was worth it. I love the extended Rf, how high she sits up, and how easily the fabric wipes clean.

We have a chicco nextfit and I am very happy with it. It took up less space front to back than many of the extended rear facing ones I looked at. I think in the pilot you won't have any trouble finding a seat that fits well.

I also really liked the diono radian but it didn't fit in our old car.

RF in the Graco for a long time too.

Britax Marathon CT. Love it!! My LO loves it too. It's comfy, super easy to install, stylish, compact (esp compared to our Marathon 70) and all around pretty awesome.

Your LO is tall though, so if you went with one of the Britax clicktights I would get either the boulevard or the advocate. All their models have the same overall size dimensions, but the boulevard and the advocate will last him an extra 2" RF.
